The 2021 Citroen C4 lineup showed that the "new" hatchback drew strong inspiration from SUVs that dominate the European market, something that can also be seen in its current competitor, the Volkswagen Nivus. 

Looking only at the front, one might think that all this change is just a restyling of the C4 Cactus, but fortunately, it's a completely innovative project. 

The 2021 Citroen C4 follows the same philosophy as other vehicles in this range, with daytime running lights aligned with the edge of the hood and headlights housed in the bumpers. 

The rear is the area where the various changes can be observed, as the model will feature horizontal taillights divided between the body, C-pillar, and trunk lid. Something aesthetically pleasing. 

In addition to the rear, there is also a pronounced drop in the roofline, which begins the formation of the spoiler above the trunk lid, a clear inspiration from models such as the Mercedes GLE and BMW X6. 

On the sides, a small plastic hexagon completes the finish, while the creases blend naturally into the bodywork details. 

 Finally, at the front, the 2021 Citroen C4 uses a piano black finish between the windshield and the sunroof, to give the impression of continuity with the front glass. 

All these aesthetic changes were made because the look of the "old" Citroen Cactus was not well received, especially in the European market. With this, the French automaker killed two birds with one stone, abandoning the outdated mid-size hatchback category and remaining in the fastest-growing segment at the moment, which is that of compact SUVs and crossovers. 

Unlike what we see on the exterior, the interior of the 2021 Citroen C4 has a more conservative design, entirely inspired by its predecessor, the current C4 Cactus. 

The interior of the new Citroen C4 features the familiar horizontal floating multimedia center, but now integrated into the dashboard thanks to the black piano finish that extends from the physical buttons to the right side of the display.

The digital instrument cluster now features a color screen, instead of the old monochrome design. What caught the most attention is the new steering wheel, which appears to be thinner than the one currently in use. 

As a way to cut costs, something that has become common among automakers is the sharing of platforms, and this will also happen with the 2021 Citroen C4, which will use a modular CMP platform, also used by the Peugeot 208 and 2008. 

According to information provided by Citroen, it is most likely that the 2021 C4 will offer the same mechanical setups as the 2008, which includes a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine capable of generating 100, 120, and 155 horsepower, as well as a 1.5-liter turbo diesel option with 100 and 120 horsepower, with choices of six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions. 

Already anticipating European laws that will ban the sale of combustion engine vehicles in the near future, the automaker will also launch the e-C4, which is the... electric model of the new 2021 Citroen C4. 

The electrified model comes with an electric motor capable of generating 136 horsepower and 26.5 kgfm of torque. Its batteries are 50 kWh and it has a range of up to 310 km.

In Brazil, the Citroen C4 Cactus is still relatively new, having been launched in the second half of 2018, making it "only 3 years old". The manufacturer has not yet commented on its launch here, but as the country has proven to be an attractive market for compact SUVs, the chances of the 2021 Citroen C4 appearing here are high. 

The replacement of the Citroen C4 Cactus with the new C4 was prompted by the model's low acceptance in Europe. However, even without plans to bring it to Brazil, it's clear that the vehicle would be successful here. 

The lines of the 2021 Citroen C4 are quite eye-catching, and although experts say that you shouldn't be solely swayed by looks when buying a car, we know that liking the vehicle's appearance is half the battle won in making the purchase. 

Considering the overall aesthetic and mechanical aspects, the chances of the 2021 C4 doing well, both in Europe and here, are high.
