When discussing the world's rarest cars, it's important to keep in mind that we're not just talking about prices and values. While some of these vehicles may be worth millions, another factor that makes them valuable is that only a few units were produced. 

Rare cars are often also unique, which makes them almost mystical. With this fascinating world surrounding these vehicles in mind, today we've selected some unusual car models rarely seen on the streets and roads.

20. Ferrari 250 GT 1962

The Ferrari 250 GT was produced between 1962 and 1964. Only 36 examples were made, and of these, only 33 remain in the world. 

It is a fast and powerful vehicle, although its exterior is delicate. Under the hood is a 168/82 V12, a well-known engine from the manufacturer at the time.

The model was designed for the automaker's Grand Touring Car segment at the time. The G50 GT raced in FIA Group 3 competition in the world championship. Of all the models produced, three were destroyed in accidents. 

THE Ferrari The 250 GT has 296 horsepower, and the last unit sold fetched an incredible US$48 million. 

19. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita 2009 

The Trevita Koenigsegg CCXR is a limited edition of the brand's CCXR. It's a rare model because only 9 examples were built. The model, which costs US$4.8 million, is for a select few. 

Boxer Floyd Mayweather is one of only nine people in the world who owns a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita and has even shown it off on his Instagram on several occasions.

In Swedish, Trevita means triple white. The patented model, which coats the car with carbon fiber, has diamond-like finishes. Hence the name Trevita. So, is it rare or not?

18. 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible

Only 13 units of the Hemi Cuda convertible were produced, making it one of the rarest cars in the world. 

Although experts predicted the model could reach prices exceeding US$5 million, today it is valued at only US$3.5 million. Today, the Hemi Cuda is one of the most expensive muscle cars on the planet.

The last copy was sold at a Mecum auction in Seattle in 2014, and the buyer's name was not revealed. 

17. Talbot Lago Grand Sport 1954

The Talbot Lago is unknown to many people in Brazil, and that's understandable. The company behind this vehicle, Automobiles Talbot SA, only operated between 1916 and 1959. 

Located in Suresnes, Hauts-de-Seine, a French region near Paris, the company only became popular after the Second World War.

The 1954 Talbot Lago Grand Sport was famous for its speed, which was... something rare At the time, the engine had 170 horsepower and was later modified to gain an additional 20 horsepower. 

The car was derived from the company's racing car, the T26C Grand Prix. Only 12 examples were built in total, and their value is estimated at US$$ 500,000. 

16. McLaren F1 LM 1995

It's practically impossible to make a list of rare and fast cars without mentioning McLaren. 

The 1995 McLaren F1 LM is a variation of the F1 cars focused on track performance. The LM designation stands for Le Mans. The car is a tribute to the five McLaren GTRs that competed in and finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.

Only 6 models were built, and that includes the prototype. The 1995 McLaren F1 LM was designed by Gordon Murray and Peter Stevens, who worked in Formula 1, and was produced in the factory where F1 cars are built.  

The rare supercar is valued at US$19.8 million. 

15. Phantom Corsair 1938

The Phantom Corsair is extremely rare, as only one unit – which was the prototype of the car – was built and ended up not being destined for mass production. 

Manufactured by Rust Heinz, known for the Heinz ketchup fortune, and Maurice Schwartz, the two-door sedan used the Cord 810 platform as its base and had a 4.7-liter V8 engine.

The production of the Corsair in 1938 cost an unimaginable US$24,000, equivalent to US$370,000 today. The model was considered ahead of its time due to its futuristic look, which mainly involved the low-profile fenders and distinctive fairing. 

Today the Phantom Corsair is valued at US$$ 500,000. 

14. Icona Vulcano Titanium 2013

The Icona Vulcano Titanium makes the list of the world's rarest cars because it is a unique example. In other words, only one unit was produced. 

The Italian brand Icona from Turin is known for manufacturing fast and exclusive cars. The Vulcano Titanium has a titanium body and is capable of reaching 350 km/h.

Under the hood, the model features a 6.2-liter V8 engine "borrowed" from the Corvette C6. This true work of art on wheels is valued at US$2.78 million. 

13. Oldsmobile F-88 1954

Harley Earl will go down in history as one of the most creative and influential automobile designers of the 20th century. Earl had several favorite designs, and one of them was called the XP-20 and nicknamed the F-88, although no one knows for sure why. 

The F-88 used the chassis of a Chevy Corvette. Its body was entirely molded from fiberglass and painted with a glossy gold paint to give it an ethereal and shimmering appearance.

This is another case of a vehicle with only one unit produced. Due to its exclusivity and history, the model is valued at US$3.3 million. 

12. Delahaye 175 S Saoutchik Roadster 1949

The 1949 Delahaye 175 S Saoutchik Roadster is a luxury vehicle which made history because of its unmistakable silhouette. Although large, the model was only capable of carrying two people. 

The movie star of the time, Diana Dors, had a Delahaye 175 S Saoutchik Roadster in her garage, which increased the model's exclusive appeal.

The Saoutchik was designed to compete in concours circuits after the Second World War and won several races such as the Grand Castle du Bois de Boulogne, the Coupe de l'Automobile and the Monte Carlo Concours. 

A total of 511 ships were built, and their value is estimated in the range of US$$ 3 million. 

11. Mercedes 300SL “Gullwing” 1955

The Mercedes 300 SL, nicknamed the "gullwing" because of its upward-opening doors, was based on the German automaker's pilot project called the W194. 

The model featured direct mechanical fuel injection which increased its power by up to 50% when compared to other cars in the line; in addition, the 300SL had a suspended engine to adjust its center of gravity.

At the time, the 300SL could reach speeds in the range of 260 km/h, a real feat for the 1950s. The abbreviation SL stands for "Super Light".

It's understandable why.  Mercedes dominates Formula 1. In modern times, their pursuit of performance is historic, as we can see in Gullwing.

In total, only 29 models were produced, and the prices for the Mercedes SL range between US$2.5 and US$3 million. 

10. Pagani Huayra BC 2017

The Pagani Huayra itself is rare, with only 100 examples ever made. However, the Huayra BC is even rarer. 

The Huayra BC is the track-focused variant and first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. BC stands for Benny Caiola, who was the best friend of the brand's founder: Horacio Pagani. Caiola was the brand's first customer.

The model features a 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine producing 745 horsepower under the hood, and its chassis is entirely made of carbon fiber. A total of 20 units were produced, and the estimated value of each is US$3.5 million. 

9. Bugatti Royale 1930

As the name suggests, the Bugatti Royale was launched in 1930 and at the time cost US$30,000, equivalent to US$463,000 today. 

But as many know, the 1929 crisis caused the world economy to plummet in 1930. Therefore, the Royale was never sold because there were no buyers willing to spend that much money after the Great Depression.

The Royale was Ettore Bugatti's favorite project and was considered his luxury vehicle. The automaker designed it with the intention of transporting heads of state and high-ranking officials. 

There are only 9 examples left in the world and the value could reach US$$ 10 million. 

8. Lamborghini Aventador 2013

Another rare example is the 2013 Lamborghini Aventador. This model, assembled in Bologna, Italy, and designed by Filippo Perini, has only 14 units produced. 

The 2013 Aventador was produced to commemorate the luxury car manufacturer's 50th anniversary. Like many others, the car was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. At the time, it was the most expensive production car available.

The Lamborghini Aventador features a 6.5-liter V12 engine and a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission, capable of reaching 350 km/h. Today it is valued at US$4.5 million. 

7. W Motors Lykan HyperSport 2012

The Lykan HyperSport is a unique supercar, even because of its origin. This rare vehicle comes directly from Dubai and is the result of a partnership between Italian and Lebanese engineers, being considered the first sports car produced in a Middle Eastern country.

In total, only 7 units were manufactured, but only 6 can be purchased. This is because the Abu Dhabi police have required one unit. 

The engine is a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder with 780 horsepower, allowing the HyperSport to reach a top speed of 390 km/h.

6. Bugatti Veyron Linea Vivere 2005

The 2005 Bugatti Veyron Linea Vivere is another one of the rarest cars in the world. At the time of its launch, it was considered the most powerful car in the world, boasting an 8-liter W16 engine with 110 horsepower under the hood.

In private tests conducted by the manufacturer, the Veyron Linea Vivere exceeded 400 km/h. In total, only two units were produced, and today each one costs US$3.5 million. 

The 1954 Packard Panther became a model car unintentionally. The model was created solely to showcase the capabilities of the Packard automaker, which at the time included color schemes and electrical components.

Although it had a stripped-down look, the mechanical aspects weren't that great. Under the hood, the model featured a 5.4L supercharged 8-cylinder engine and an Ultramatic transmission.

The automaker reportedly didn't want to mass-produce the Panther because it wanted to direct buyers to its existing inventory of unsold vehicles. 

In total, only 4 models were produced and only two are in circulation. Today, the 1954 Panther is valued in the range of US$$ 900,000. 

4. Ferrari F50 1996

The 1996 Ferrari F50 literally looks like a race car. The bright red luxury model was designed to compete against classic rivals such as the Porsche 911 GT and McLaren F1 GTR.

The F50 was designed by Pininfarina and assembled at the manufacturer's factory in Maranello, and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. With a 740 horsepower engine, the model easily surpasses the 300 km/h mark. 

A total of 349 units were made, costing around US$1.5 million. 

3. 1957 Jaguar XKSS

Initially, the Jaguar XKSS was built in 1957. But the project was abandoned by the manufacturer. Much later, more precisely in 2016, the British manufacturer returned and made nine more examples that were originally intended to be made in the 1950s.

Thus, we have only one example of the XKSS actually produced in 1957. The car was originally a racing car and was withdrawn from the track at the end of 1956, when Sir William Lyons decided to retire it from racing and transform it into a road car. 

Today, this unique model, one of the rarest cars in the world, is valued at an incredible US$21 million. 

2. Rolls-Royce 15 HP 1904

The 15HP was designed by Rolls-Royce in 1904, and only one example was produced. The car emerged as a result of an agreement between Henry Royce and Charles Rolls to jointly form the Rolls-Royce company. 

The model was sold at the dealership for a price of US$ 645. Five more 15HP models joined the line, but not in 1904.

The 15HP 1904 was a kind of concept car, joining the 10, 20 and 30 HP models in a sort of historical line.

The rare 1904 15HP was equipped with a 3000cc 3-cylinder engine and today is worth a whopping US$4.5 million. 

1. Porsche 550 Spyder

Only ninety examples of this elegant silver racing car were produced. 

The Porsche 550 was produced between 1953 and 1956, and all 90 examples were assembled at the manufacturer's factory in Stuttgart, Germany. The two-door sports car is considered by some to be a coupé and by others a Spyder.

Under the hood, the 550 had a 1.5L DOHC Flat Four engine, and at the time, buyers could choose between a four- or five-speed manual transmission.

Originally produced for the track, the 550 dominated and won its debut race: the Nürburgring Eiffel. After that, in every race it competed in, the model always finished in the top 3. 

The Porsche 550 is an inspiration for many racing cars to this day. Although only 90 examples were produced, it is undoubtedly one of the rarest cars in the world. Its value is estimated at US$3.6 million.
