The Swedish model doesn't seem intimidated or bothered by the competition, which includes the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Audi Q5.

Motorization

The new Volvo XC60 features three different engine options.

Motorização Volvo
The Volvo XC60 features three different engines.

2.0 T5 gasoline-powered

The entry-level models are equipped with a 2.0 T5 gasoline engine featuring a turbocharger, direct fuel injection, dual overhead camshafts, aluminum components, and four cylinders.

This engine generates up to 254 horsepower and is coupled with an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and an AWD all-wheel drive system.

2.0 D5 turbodiesel

The intermediate versions have under the hood the new 2.0 D5 four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with the same configurations and technologies as the gasoline version. However, the power unit generates "only" 235 horsepower.

The transmission option remains the 8-speed automatic, also equipped with a four-wheel drive system.

2.0 T5 Hybrid

Finally, in the top-of-the-line version, the highlight is the 2.0 T5 gasoline engine, in addition to another electric motor, which when combined can generate 320 horsepower.

The hybrid powertrain features an 8-speed automatic transmission and an AWD all-wheel drive system.

Consumption and dimensions

The Volvo XC60's fuel consumption is quite impressive, especially considering its weight of almost 2.2 tons. On the highway, the new model surpasses the previous generation, which had fuel consumption below 10 km/liter, even though it was lighter.

As expected, the highlight is the new hybrid version, capable of more than doubling the range compared to the gasoline or diesel versions.

In the city, the Volvo CX60's fuel consumption is:

  • Gasoline engine: 8.4 km per liter;
  • Diesel engine: 8.5 km per liter;
  • Hybrid engine: 19 km per liter.

The SUV's fuel consumption on the highway is as follows:

  • Gasoline engine: 10.2 km per liter;
  • Diesel engine 10.5 km per liter;
  • Hybrid engine 20 km/l.

And finally, the dimensions of the new Volvo XC60 are:

  • Length: 4,688 mm;
  • Width: 1,902 mm;
  • Height: 1,658 mm;
  • Wheelbase: 2,865 mm.

Considering a used Volvo XC60 is also a good idea.

While many enjoy driving a brand-new car, there are those who choose to look for used cars as a way to take advantage of the natural appreciation of vehicles and drive highly technological models without spending a fortune. And although many people don't know it, finding a used Volvo XC60 can be a real lifesaver.

Vehicle tax and car insurance costs for the Volvo XC60.

The first factor to consider when buying a used or nearly new Volvo XC60 concerns the costs of vehicle registration tax (IPVA) and car insurance.

It is possible to find good examples of Volvo XC60s starting from the year 2010. The prices of 2010 and 2019 models vary between R$ 1900 and R$ 4000. Car insurance also varies in price, always taking into account the driver's profile, but using the average of versions between 2010 and 2019, Volvo XC60 car insurance starts at R$ 4,500 and can reach figures of R$ 8,000.

The Volvo XC60's fuel tank is another major attraction.

Another feature that attracts buyers to the Volvo XC60 is its fuel tank. Even in older models, the tank has a fairly large capacity of 70 liters.

The only version that differs in this respect is the hybrid, whose tank has "only" a 50-liter capacity, since its range is much greater.

Prices for used Volvo XC60s

Another factor that draws considerable attention is the price of used and pre-owned XC60s. Searching on specialized websites reveals models in the following price ranges:

  • Volvo XC60 2012: R$ 50 thousand;
  • Volvo XC60 2013: R$ 73 thousand;
  • Volvo XC60 2014 R$ 80 thousand;
  • Volvo XC60 2015 R$ 105 thousand;
  • Volvo CX60 2016 R$ 119 thousand;
  • Volvo CX60 2017 R$ 125 thousand;
  • Volvo CX60 2018 R$ 155 thousand;
  • Volvo CX60 2019 R$ 195 thousand.

Differences between Volvo's T5 and T6 engines

This is a very common question among those who are thinking about buying a Volvo CX60.

Engines are one of Volvo's main focuses, and one of the most important changes was the development of engine technology called Drive-E. This technology combines lightweight engines with mechanical compressors, turbochargers, and electrification, aiming for different levels of performance.

Drive-E technology aims to improve fuel consumption and minimize pollutant emissions. As a result, engines in this line have reduced maintenance costs.

Drive-e
The Drive-e line of engines has evolved with efficiency in mind.

The engines in this line arrived in Brazil in T5 versions, equipping the Volvo S60, V60, and XC60, and are part of the automaker's update and modernization in Brazil.

Specifically, the Drive-E family of engines focused on energy efficiency. Therefore, the manufacturer's main priority was to reduce the weight and size of the engine, as well as to minimize friction and energy losses in order to improve flow and make the system increasingly efficient.

The Drive-e family of engines reduces production costs through economies of scale and ease of maintenance complexity, thus providing real benefits for consumers. Therefore, although the brand's engines have different power outputs, they share the same base, utilizing the same block, crankshaft, oil pump, oil pan, air conditioning compressor, and other components.

In Brazil, the engines sold follow the T4, T5, T6, and T8 lines. They all share the same base, being all 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engines; the only difference is the power range, which is defined as follows:

  • T4: 190 horsepower;
  • T5: 245 horsepower;
  • T6: 320 horsepower;
  • T8: 320 horsepower + electric motor (hybrid technology).

The T4 and T5 use only one turbocharger for power delivery. The T6, on the other hand, uses both a turbocharger and a supercharger to deliver higher power and is among the most powerful four-cylinder engines in the world. Finally, the T8 has the same specifications as the T6, but with the support of an electric motor in its hybrid versions.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Volvo XC60

Like any vehicle, the Volvo CX60 has advantages and disadvantages, especially when opting to purchase a used model.

Buying a used model isn't a bad idea.

Advantages of owning a Volvo CX60

The main advantages of the Volvo CX60 are its onboard technology and the reliability it offers. In addition, owners cite its design and refined finish as positive aspects.

Disadvantages of owning a Volvo CX60

The disadvantages mentioned regarding owning a Volvo CX60 relate to the high maintenance costs, relatively high compared to other models. Another negative point mentioned by owners is the fuel consumption, considered high even for highway driving.

There are also consistent reports in older models of transmission problems that, in more serious cases, require replacement. The engine mount also often causes problems, and according to mechanics, this is due to the vehicle's weight.

Finally, the biggest complaint from those who own a Volvo CX60 is the rapid (and high) depreciation of the car.

Conclusion

The new Volvo CX60 is truly eye-catching, and its hybrid version is a draw for the new times ahead, focusing on mobility, functionality, and the environment. As the numbers show, the model should be a thorn in the side of its main competitors and lead its segment without major problems.
