Pros: Possibility of two segments
The first positive point to consider about the Toyota Yaris is that the model covers two segments at the same time.
In this way, the model is a good option for those looking for both a hatchback and a sedan option.
Pros: Finish
The Toyota Yaris's finish is a very important aspect that should be taken into consideration when... close the deal.
The plastic parts are more durable and offer significantly higher quality than most of its competitors, such as the VW Polo or the Chevrolet Onix.
Refined quality is present in all versions of the model, something that should be taken into consideration. After all, over the years, vehicles with less refined finishes tend to be noisy, causing noise pollution and reducing onboard comfort.
Pros: Comfort and interior space
On Toyota's assembly lines, the Yaris is nicknamed "the little one." Corolla.
This is a playful comparison, albeit with a strong sense of truth, to its older sibling, given the comfort and interior space that the model offers.
Although the model is more basic and more affordable, the comfort combined with the interior space is surprising.
Both the Toyota Yaris hatchback and sedan, which are built on the same platform, have plenty of space and can comfortably accommodate 5 occupants.
Passengers traveling in the back seats rarely report feeling cramped or uncomfortable. It's a great car for families or even for singles with many friends.
Pros: Security
Continuing our list of pros and cons of the Toyota Yaris, we have another very positive point that should not be overlooked: Safety.
Both versions of the Yaris are equipped with safety features such as stability and traction control, as well as a hill start assist system.
In addition, the model features darkness sensors that turn on the headlights in dark conditions.
Finally, it is important to highlight that the model has a total of 7 airbags, providing safety for all occupants.
Pros: Spacious trunk
The spacious trunk is a very positive point found in both versions of the Yaris. This is surprisingly positive even in the hatchback version, which boasts a 310-liter trunk.
Furthermore, it is important to point out that the seats can be folded down, further increasing the cargo capacity.
In the sedan model, the trunk capacity increases to a total of 473 liters. Therefore, combined with its ample interior space and large trunk, the Yaris is a great option for carrying luggage, odds and ends, and other odds and ends.
Pros: Consumption
Another positive point that draws a lot of attention to the Toyota Yaris is the model's fuel consumption, both in the hatchback and sedan categories.
The two engine options and two transmission options are not out of sync with each other. Something else worth mentioning.
In general, with both engines and the two different body styles, the Yaris averages 10 km/L in city driving, whether using gasoline or ethanol.
When driven on the highway, this average increases. With ethanol, the Yaris averages around 12 km/L, and with gasoline, the model achieves averages very close to 15 km/L.
Pros: Warranty
When it comes to warranties, the longer the better, right?
The warranty is one of the most positive aspects that should be taken into consideration by anyone thinking about buying a Yaris.
Today, Toyota offers a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty. This makes it possible to buy used vehicles that are still under factory warranty.
However, something needs to be said about the warranty: It is very difficult to use. This is simply because Toyota vehicles have extremely refined mechanics.
As is well known, Japanese cars are popular in Brazil due to their durability and mechanical reliability.
Cons: Handling
When reading about the Toyota Yaris, one feature that really stands out is the electric power steering.
At first glance, it seems like a nice feature and improves handling. But unfortunately, this isn't noticeable in practice.
Even with various modifications, Toyota still hasn't found a middle ground in calibrating this type of steering.
When the vehicle is at high speed, the steering is even firmer than it should be, and when in low-speed traffic, it feels like the steering wheel is loose.
Both situations directly affect drivability and create a reduced sense of security. Unfortunately, this is seen as a negative point in our list of pros and cons of the Toyota Yaris.
Cons: Old design
The Toyota Yaris took a while to arrive in Brazil. The generation currently circulating on our streets and roads was launched in Asia in 2013. In other words, the model is very likely about to change generations in the Asian market, and the same is not expected to happen here.
Although the exterior is beautiful and even attractive, it's important to remember that under the hood, the Yaris is already a bit outdated.
Currently, the platform used is the EFC from the Etios, which was developed exclusively for emerging markets.
This is an architectural design that has been around since 2010 when the model was launched in the Asian market.
Another point promised by Toyota Asia is a new engine. Although the Brazilian engines are current and extremely functional, it is very likely that new power units will be developed soon.
Hybrid versions are already considered a certainty, including in Brazil, and this could happen as early as 2021.
Conclusion
As already stated, there is no model that can be considered 100% in terms of both positive and negative aspects, and the Toyota Yaris is no exception to this rule.
