The pros and cons of the Fiat Strada
Discover now all the pros and cons of the Fiat Strada.
Pro: Design
The first point that deserves highlighting, and was a success for the manufacturer, is the design.
Although the previous generation was quite different – in fact, some preferred it to this one – the design of the new Strada is distinct and appealing.
It's possible to say that although it has the soul of a Toro, even being considered a Mini Toro, more attentive eyes can notice a mix of models, with external parts reminiscent of the Mobi and the Argo.
The old saying that you shouldn't change a winning team has been set aside, and it seems to be working.
Pros: Security
The new Strada is built on a new platform, about which the manufacturer is not revealing much about its origin.
Internal information from unofficial sources claims that it incorporates some elements from the Argo, Mobi, and (believe it or not) Fiorino. Regardless, the brand has strived to improve the build quality of the compact pickup truck in every aspect.
Just to give an example, 90% of the structure uses ultra-high-strength steels, with only 10% being made of common steels that are applied in the area behind the panel to deform in case of accidents.
Furthermore, Fiat equipped the Strada with standard stability and traction control across all versions, as well as hill start assist, an item that will only become mandatory starting next year.
The Fiat Strada also features four airbags as standard, another feature that was previously unseen in compact pickup trucks.
And to further enhance safety, the LED headlights offer improved visibility, ensuring even safer driving.
Pros: Interior space in the double cab version
In the previous generation, the Fiat Strada attempted an unusual move and created a double-cab version, but with only three doors, requiring rear access via a "suicide" door (which opens in the opposite direction).
In this generation, passengers have two additional doors to access the rear seats. Therefore, the Strada with a double cab has a total of 4 doors.
The initial design aimed for four doors from the start. Therefore, the interior cabin space, especially in the rear seats, is pleasing and allows five adults to travel comfortably.
Pros: Larger cargo bed in a single cab
Those who intend to use the new Strada for work or to enjoy nature and wish to carry cargo will be happy to know that the cargo bed of the single cab versions has become larger.
It measures 1.71 meters in length and its sides have been raised, allowing for an increase in total volume from 1,220 liters to 1,354 liters, while the load capacity has also grown to 720 kg, 15 kg more than the previous generation.
Furthermore, the tailgate received a damping system that reduced the effort required to both open and close it by 60%.
Pros: Prices
Here we have a point that is very important. Especially for a model that wants to maintain its leadership in its segment.
The price is another positive point on our list of pros and cons for the Fiat Strada.
With prices starting at around R$63,000 and reaching a maximum of R$80,000, many people who were considering a sedan or SUV should look at the compact pickup truck with different eyes.
The prices are much more affordable than its main competitor, the VW Saveiro.
Furthermore, it's virtually impossible to find a vehicle packed with technology, connectivity, and safety features for the prices that this compact pickup truck costs.
Pros: Handling
The Fiat Strada's handling is another extremely positive aspect. The new platform, the traction and stability systems, and the fixed rear axle design ensure a firm, fun, and most importantly, enjoyable driving experience.
When loaded, the Fiat Strada handles very well, without causing any surprises for drivers, and when the bed is empty, the pickup truck's rear end doesn't become loose, unlike what happens even in many other pickup trucks.
The driving experience sets the Strada apart from many vehicles, including hatchbacks and compact SUVs.
Cons: Short cargo bed on the double cab.
Starting with the negative points in our list of pros and cons of the Fiat Strada, we have the pickup truck's bed, which features a double cab.
While the cargo bed of the single-cab Strada has become larger, we cannot say the same for the double-cab.
In order to have enough space in the cabin, Fiat would have to sacrifice something, and in this case, it was the cargo bed.
It is 1.17 meters long, 54 centimeters shorter than the single cab version, which reduced its total capacity to 884 liters and 650 kg. This is a rather considerable loss.
Just to give an example, this prevents the transport of a number of items, such as a jet ski or a motorcycle, for example.
However, this issue can be minimized by using a cabin extender, which can be purchased at any Fiat dealership.
Cons: Lack of automatic transmission.
As many people know and increasingly prefer, automatic cars are preferred by customers, but the compact pickup truck segment, for reasons unknown, has not been following this trend.
The Strada is a classic example of this, arriving in dealerships with only one transmission option – a five-speed manual. However, there are already reliable sources within Fiat's upper management who claim that this will change soon.
For 2021, the inclusion of a CVT-type automatic transmission for the 1.3 engine is planned, which should also arrive for some models such as the Fiat Cronos and the Fiat Argo.
Cons: Simple interior in the top-of-the-line version.
The Fiat Strada is now a vehicle for mixed use.
While some may use the vehicle for leisure, others see it as a literal work tool, and although the manufacturer doesn't say so, the top-of-the-line double-cab version is produced to try and win over the sedan and hatchback market.
In this respect, it becomes a little difficult to look at the interior of the Volcano version and not think that the finish is somewhat simplistic and similar to that of other configurations.
There is an unnecessary excess of hard plastic throughout the cabin, and the instrument panel is reminiscent of the one used in the Fiat Uno, which may not help the buyer to spend the full amount the pickup is worth.
Conclusion
With all the items, equipment, accessories and systems, it is very likely that the Fiat Strada Stay at the top of your segment.
As is easily noticeable, there are far more positive aspects than negative ones to the Fiat Strada, and it's also important to consider that the "cons" presented here are merely opinions.
It's important to keep in mind that there is no car, nor will there ever be, that has 100% public acceptance.
However, the Fiat Strada, which already pleased many people, should become even more popular.
