19 – Peugeot 208
We begin our list with the outdated Peugeot 208, manufactured since 2012 by the French automaker Peugeot. Abroad, Peugeot is highly acclaimed, with awards and various accolades, but in Brazil, consumers don't have such a high opinion of the brand. The Peugeot 208 made the list of bad cars of 2020 due to complaints from its owners, which can be found anywhere on the internet. Among the various complaints about the model, the main ones are: expensive maintenance, suspension failures, recurring internal noises and rattles, and cramped and undervalued rear space. Therefore, the Peugeot 208 is one of the worst cars to buy this year.
18 – Fiat Uno Way
The Fiat Uno is one of the popular classics in the Brazilian market, but of course it's not perfect; otherwise, it wouldn't be on this list of the worst cars to buy in 2020. Specifically, the Uno Way has clear defects, such as oil leaks and very high fuel consumption, which already make this vehicle a strong candidate to be discontinued or drastically improved. However, its engine also presents problems, such as difficulty accelerating and overheating. Truly, the Uno Way is not one of the best car options in 2020.
17 – Fiat Idea
The magnificent Fiat Idea is a quite spacious family car. It has a peculiar name meaning "idea" in Portuguese, which makes perfect sense, as the "idea" behind the vehicle's design was truly excellent. However, since its launch in 2003, the Fiat Idea has received numerous complaints over time and is becoming a poor car to own. There are communication problems between customer and manufacturer, as there are reports that after maintenance it presents more problems. There are also issues with the electric window controls and the alarm, in addition to the automated transmission not fitting well with the car and defects in the trunk opening, especially in the Adventure version.
16 – Mercedes-Benz A-Class
Reading number 16, it might seem surprising to find a Mercedes on our list, right?! But it turns out that not all the bad cars we're presenting here are due to mechanical failures; in the case of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the problems are economic. Considering the Brazilian public and the society we live in, the A-Class is considered an "expensive car to maintain," with maintenance and servicing that weigh heavily on the wallet and a hefty price tag. Furthermore, having fallen in the rankings last year, these factors make it one of the worst cars to buy in 2020, at least in terms of fuel economy.
15 – Nissan Tiida
If someone asked, "How many times have you seen a Nissan Tiida on the street?", answering that question would be very difficult; the number would be counted on one hand. This is because the Japanese car hasn't gained a foothold in the Brazilian market since 2004 and has served as mere decoration for dealerships. However, that's not all that makes it one of the worst cars to own; it received a very low score in crash tests, is not at all safe for children, and has expensive maintenance.
14 – Nissan March
It might seem paradoxical to comment on the March, since some love it, but others despise it. But since our list is about the worst cars to buy, we'll highlight the cons of owning a Nissan March. Starting with the crash test, it resulted in 2 stars for adult protection and 1 for child protection, making it highly dangerous in case of an accident. It consumes too much fuel, has internal noises, a not-so-good suspension, and a manual transmission that is too stiff, according to some owners of the vehicle.
13 – Citroën C3
We've mentioned in other articles that French cars don't have a good reputation with the Brazilian public, especially the Citroën C3, manufactured by the French automaker Citroën since 2002. It's among the bad cars because it has suspension problems, minor and major flaws, expensive maintenance, and consequently, it has fallen in the rankings. These are already sufficient factors to highlight this vehicle as one of the worst cars to buy in 2020.
12 – Chevrolet Celta
The classic GM 1.0, which for many years was one of the main popular cars in Brazil, also has its flaws that place it among the worst cars. It is still very active on national roads, especially used models, but several issues make it one of the worst cars to buy in 2020. Some of these include: suspension problems, leaks, especially in the radiator, and other negative details such as the smell of fuel emanating from the pump during refueling and the battery compartment, which, according to reports, rusts where the battery is located.
11 – Jac J3
Just like the Nissan Tiida, it's rare to see a J3 on our roads; it's not uncommon, but it's not common either. This is because the car wasn't designed for Brazilian roads. The vehicle has problems with its suspension, which is quite fragile, constant leaks, and also the transmission. Not to mention that the difficulty in finding J3 parts is a huge factor in placing it among the worst cars to buy in 2020. According to owner reports, it also has problems with practically all the electrical components, and this undoubtedly puts the expensive J3 among the worst cars in Brazil.
10 – Renault Sandero
The Sandero is a classic car in Brazil, manufactured by Renault, and is one of the best-known French cars in the country. Its performance is reasonably good compared to other French cars on the market, but there are some reported problems that have led to its inclusion on this list. These defects include transmission failure, oil leaks, a fragile engine design, and others. Not to mention the expensive maintenance due to a lack of technical information.
9 – Fiat Siena
Perhaps this is the most well-known popular Fiat sedan in the Brazilian market; the car is quite old and has been in Brazil for several generations. It falls into the category of bad cars due to numerous reports of vehicle failures and defects, such as leaks in the oil pan and head gasket, poor contact in the electric windows, and other complaints in forums alleging a weak 1.0 engine that forces the driver to floor it and that low speeds are detrimental, among other issues.
8 – Volkswagen Voyage
The Voyage is a sedan-style vehicle that has been on the market for over forty years. Manufactured by the German automaker Volkswagen, the Voyage replaced the Polo Classic and has even won the award for "car of the year"The reason it's among the cars to avoid in 2020 is due to common vehicle flaws that plague it, causing it to fall in the ranking. Faults such as excessive engine noise, noisy suspension, leaking power steering, faulty ignition coil, etc. At least these are the most common defects reported by vehicle owners."
7 – Renault Clio
The Renault Clio is undoubtedly one of the most outdated cars and even one of the most problematic in Brazil. Manufactured by the French automaker Renault in 1990, it arrived in Brazil in 1998 and its journey here ended in 2016. The vehicle is one of the worst cars on the list because it lacks technical information, its maintenance and servicing are very expensive, since the lack of technical information limits repairs. The engine design is quite fragile, which makes it prone to problems. These factors make the Renault Clio not only one of the worst cars in Brazil, but perhaps in the world, at least in 2020.
6 – Fiat Palio Weekend
The Weekend is a station wagon version of the Palio, manufactured by the Italian automaker FIAT since 1997. The car has been through a lot and isn't considered the worst car in Brazil, but it's best to avoid it. Fuel consumption is extremely high and the interior is very cramped; tall drivers end up feeling cramped, and even more so the passenger. Avoid buying the Palio Weekend in 2020.
5 – Kia Picanto
The only Kia on our list, a South Korean automaker that has been manufacturing the Picanto since 2004, it has been one of the brand's main vehicles in Brazil, with positive results. It's not a terrible car, but for 2020 it's best to avoid it. The vehicle has high fuel consumption, poor performance, stiff suspension, and a small interior space that makes passengers feel cramped. Therefore, the Kia Picanto is one of the worst cars to buy this year.
4 – Volkswagen SpaceFox
The SpaceFox is a car derived from the well-known Fox, which gave rise to the CrossFox and the SpaceFox, a station wagon version of the model, perhaps the worst, since the common defects are not the only things that make it a car to avoid in 2020. The vehicle frequently falls in the rankings and is very outdated, with frequent reports of transmission and suspension failures, as well as interior noises.
3 – Chevrolet Montana
The Montana is a lightweight pickup truck manufactured by General Motors, focused on work use, and is one of the brand's cheapest cars. Over the years, it has fallen out of favor in the mid-size pickup market, losing strength and even depreciating in value, with direct competitors being the Volkswagen Saveiro and the Fiat Strada. The model isn't terrible, but for 2020 it's best to avoid it. Besides depreciating, it frequently experiences problems with the engine, suspension, and transmission, so the Montana is, in some ways, one of the worst cars to buy in 2020.
2 – Cherry QQ
The cheapest car in Brazil, manufactured by Caoa Chery. It has a relatively small market share and is among the cheapest cars in the country. Due to its imported manufacturing, the vehicle is prone to problems, and this is the case with the QQ, which suffers from very easy wear and tear on its parts, a fragile engine, and suspension issues. The cheapest car in Brazil, yes! But if it breaks down, it will be a headache that nobody likes to face.
1- Fiat Doblò
The Doblò is a completely outdated vehicle from Fiat, perhaps the most outdated car in Brazil. It has exorbitant prices and doesn't stand a chance against the competition. For a long time it was a reasonable car, but now it's far from it. Besides being outdated and extremely expensive, it has recurring defects, very high fuel consumption, and mediocre performance. Without a doubt, the Fiat Doblò is the worst car to buy.
