We wrote this article to help you make the right choice, where you'll discover which cars to avoid buying in 2020. Check out our list below and tell us what you think via email.

The main cars to avoid buying in 2020. Check it out!

Find out which are the main cars to avoid buying in 2020.

15. Lifan X 60

Although it boasts an absurdly good cost-benefit ratio, with prices starting at R$ 70,000, and is packed with standard equipment such as a reversing camera, daytime running lights, Isofix, multimedia center with GPS, leather seats and many others, you might ask yourself: But why is it on the list of cars to avoid buying in 2020?

The answer is simple. Lifan has few dealerships, and the model is notorious for expensive maintenance. Add to that its low liquidity, which devalues the car at the time of sale, and there you have it: a recipe for disaster.

14. Nissan March

Although it's a very interesting vehicle, there are rumors that the Japanese automaker's compact car's days are numbered, since the company's bet for the Brazilian market is the new generation of the Versa.

With the possibility of being discontinued, and with somewhat high prices, starting at around R$51,000 and R$65,000 for the S.10 and SL1.6 versions, respectively, the Nissan March is certainly one of the cars to avoid buying in 2020.

13. Volkswagen Fox

With the arrival of the Up and the Polo, the Fox ended up getting somewhat lost in the market, and the German automaker ended up creating a real dilemma among its fans.

Currently, the Fox is sold in only two versions, Connect and Xtreme, with prices ranging from R$51,000 to R$56,000. However, the modernized Polo has prices starting from R$53,000.

Furthermore, with the likely arrival of the new generation of the Gol in 2021, some say that Fox production may end. Just to be on the safe side, the Fox is another car to avoid buying in 2020.

12.Mitsubishi ASX

The Mitsubishi ASX is a classic example of a model that has become outdated. Produced for almost a decade on the same platform and even with two facelifts, the model has an outdated design compared to its rivals and even other models from the manufacturer.

The 2.0 flex engine is underwhelming, the finish is relatively basic, and the after-sales service is disappointing. Furthermore, its competitors, such as the Jeep Compass and the Volkswagen Tiguan, have more attractive prices and are considered vehicles with better value for money.

If the Mitsubishi ASX was on your shopping list for 2020, you'd better cross it off your list.

11. Chery QQ

The Chery QQ continues to hold the title of the cheapest vehicle in Brazil, with prices starting in the R$ range of R$25,000, although it lacks some standard features. While the price is attractive, the model has a simple and fragile structure, and its 1.0 engine is considered weak and difficult to maintain.

Despite the manufacturer's denial, some dealerships stated back in July 2019 that production of the model would be discontinued, and its manufacturing plant, which was located in Jacareí (SP), would be replaced by new electric vehicles from Caoa Chery.

Without a clear forecast for the future, instead of investing in a QQ, it's more advantageous to buy a used compact car with low mileage and standard features. Therefore, the Chery QQ is another car to avoid buying in 2020.

10. Fiat Grand Siena

Although it's a nice car, its main drawback is the price. Starting at R$ 50,000 with a 1.0 engine and R$ 55,000 in the 1.4 version. The problem is that it's possible to find competitors that are more economical and have a wide variety of standard features not offered by the Italian sedan.

The Cronos, a model from the same manufacturer, starts at R$56,000, equipped with a modern 1.3 engine and, according to experts, much more fun to drive. Therefore, it's best to consider the Grand Siena as an alternative.

9. Citroen C3

The Citroen C3 is a true success for the French automaker, boasting high-quality finishes and truly interesting standard features; however, its future in Brazil remains uncertain. This is because Citroen has streamlined the lineup and currently offers only three versions, requiring an investment of around R$55,000 for the entry-level model. The top-of-the-line version now costs R$71,000.

With an uncertain future and high prices, it's safer to look for other options, even within the same manufacturer, such as the Citroen C4 Cactus, considered more modern and fun to drive, with prices starting at R$75,000. Unfortunately, the Citroen C3 is another car to avoid buying in 2020.

8. Ford EcoSport Run Flat

Many Brazilians still prioritize vehicle aesthetics over usability, which led Ford to remove the spare tire from the rear of the EcoSport, adding a run-flat tire repair kit for its 2020 model. This way, if a tire punctures, the owner can drive a maximum of 200 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

This innovation causes some apprehension, after all, with the absence of a spare tire, the customer can only equip the vehicle with run-flat tires, which are much more expensive than conventional ones. Furthermore, replacing the tires with conventional models is not permitted in the case of the EcoSport Run Flat, which cannot be driven without a spare tire and conventional tires due to its homologation.

7. Chevrolet Cobalt

With the launch of the Onix Plus, the Cobalt automatically loses significant ground within Chevrolet's vehicle lineup. Although the model remains on the manufacturer's website and there is still a stock of cars available for sale, dealerships have already stated that the model will be discontinued in 2020.

When stock runs out, the model's end will be sealed. Its smaller sibling, the Joy Plus, however, will have a longer lifespan in the market. Therefore, the Chevrolet Cobalt is yet another car to avoid buying in 2020.

6. Honda CR-V

The Japanese SUV is far from being a bad carOn the contrary, it's a vehicle full of qualities, but what hinders it is its price, which starts at 189 thousand R$.

Even with all-wheel drive and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 190 horsepower, it's possible to find more powerful competitors at more attractive prices, such as the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, for example. Furthermore, the CR-V is known to depreciate considerably upon resale, making it one of the cars to avoid buying in 2020.

5. Peugeot 208

The Peugeot 208 is the French automaker's flagship car in Brazil and will get a new generation here. The model will be identical to the European version launched in 2019. Sales are expected to begin in the second half of the year.

The current generation is still manufactured in Brazil, in Porto Real – RJ. The new version of the 208 will be produced in El Palomar, Argentina, and imported to Brazil through trade benefits secured by the Mercosur agreement.

Therefore, if you are thinking of buying this model, it is best to wait for the arrival and release of the new line.

4. Hyundai ix35

The Hyundai ix35 is yet another car to avoid buying in 2020 due to its uncertain future. The Hyundai SUV has seen increasingly modest sales. In 2019, not even 6,000 units were registered. To make matters worse, the ix35 faces direct internal competition from the Creta, which is smaller but more modern and similarly priced.

The Hyundai ix35 remains in production only because of Hyundai's contract with Caoa, and this is another delicate point, as the South Korean automaker has already stated that it will not renew it. The case ended up in German court, in a Frankfurt court.

Currently, the ix35 is the only car assembled at the factory operated by the Brazilian company in Goiás. If you were planning to buy this SUV, you'd be better off choosing another model.

3. Honda Fit

The new generation of the Fit was presented at the last Tokyo Motor Show and is expected to arrive in Brazil in the second half of this year. Although it has been completely redesigned, the SUV maintains its focus on space efficiency and practicality.

The new model will have a turbocharged, three-cylinder engine with direct injection. The transmission will be a CVT automatic. A hybrid version is also expected. Therefore, now is not the time to buy a Honda Fit, as you will likely end up with a lemon.

2. Volkswagen Space Fox

The German automaker's station wagon never managed to adequately replace its predecessors, the Santana Quantum and the Parati. Its engine was always considered weak for the total weight of the body.

Its production was based in Argentina, and its end has been officially confirmed. With prices starting at R$ 66 thousand, the station wagon bids farewell with an entry-level version featuring a 1.6 engine with manual or automatic transmission.

Although it was never a good buy, now more than ever, the Space Fox is one of the cars to avoid buying in 2020.

1. Mitsubishi Lancer

The Japanese mid-size sedan has been threatened with extinction for some time now, and even with a recent update in Taiwan, the model is not gaining traction in the Brazilian market.

In 2019, its sales were low, and even after 10 years on the market, the Lancer is outdated compared to its rivals. This lack of new features, coupled with low sales, raises doubts about the model's survival for much longer, placing it on the list of cars to avoid buying in 2020.
