Cars to avoid

Imagine fulfilling your lifelong dream of buying a car, only to discover it's one of the worst cars in Brazil? That's why today Senhor Carros has specially selected 30 cars to avoid at all costs.

Now, follow me and let's take a look at the worst cars in Brazil that you should avoid at all costs, check it out!

30 – Renault Clio

Let's face it, it's no surprise that the Clio appears on this list. It was one of the worst cars ever produced by Renault. And we're starting with it because in the Latin NCAP risk test published by Exame magazine, it was the worst vehicle. It earned 0 stars for adult safety; the car couldn't withstand the impact of the test, and if there had been a driver inside, they could have suffered chest and leg injuries. It also only earned 2 stars for child safety; with the impact in the test, the baby seat wasn't sufficient to provide safety for a child under three years old. Therefore, the Renault Clio is one of the worst cars in Brazil.

Clio

29 – Volkswagen Voyage

If only the problem with the Voyage were security. But this car is almost literally a magnet for thieves. It has topped the ranking of the most stolen cars for years; in a way, this doesn't make it one of the worst cars in Brazil, but it's certainly one of the most affected. In 2019 alone, 1,279 Voyage models were stolen, and the theft rate is 1,38%.

Voyage

28 – Fiat New Palio

If the Renault Clio is the worst car in terms of safety, just look at the Fiat New Palio. Besides lacking airbags, its crash test showed a potential for fatal injuries, deeming the risk high and earning the Fiat New Palio only 1 star for adult safety. For children, the result was simple, but the lack of adequate safety accommodations was insufficient, resulting in only 2 stars for child safety. The New Palio is full of features that should be considered; it has its good and bad points, but some say it's one of the worst cars in Brazil.

Fiat Palio

27 – Fiat Siena

The Fiat Siena is a well-known sedan nationally, possessing features that entice buyers, such as its excellent trunk space. It remains one of the most traded cars on the used car market to this day. However, acquiring one of these vehicles today is not worthwhile. Despite its accessible cost-benefit ratio, the Siena can be one of the worst cars in Brazil when it comes to safety. It is one of the most stolen cars in the country, with 530 theft reports last year alone, representing a rate of 1,29%.

Fiat Siena

26 – Volkswagen Gol Trend 1.6

We all know the Gol, of course! And we certainly won't say it's one of the worst cars in Brazil. However, the Trend 1.6 version also participated in the crash test and performed terribly. Considered high-risk for adults, it only received 1 star for safety. And even though the Gol is quite beloved by the nation, it was the 4th most stolen car of 2019, with 814 models reported stolen, a theft rate of 1,14%.

VW Gol

25 – Fiat Palio Weekend

The Palio Weekend didn't achieve the expected success, losing out to competitors. While the vehicle possesses a certain simplicity and refinement, perhaps this model isn't one of the worst cars in Brazil. However, when it comes to safety, the Palio Weekend loses all points. 425 thefts of this model were recorded in 2019 alone, with a theft rate of 1,13%. For years, the Weekend has been ranked among the least safe cars.

Fiat Weekend

24 – Jac J3

JAC Motors knows how to make vehicles, but with all due respect, the JAC J3 is undoubtedly one of the worst cars in Brazil. In the crash test, the driver's head and chest compressed the airbag. It was not considered resistant to impacts, with a high risk of serious injury, which is why it only received 1 star in the test. And if that were the only problem, I could even be lenient, but besides not being resistant, it is considered one of the cars that has the most problems, according to the website Minutos Seguros. With a completely sensitive suspension and electronic injection calibration that presents problems, the JAC J3 is one of the worst cars in Brazil, so avoid it!

Jac J3

23 – Chevrolet Celta

The vehicle that hasn't stopped its upward trajectory also makes our list. Yes, but don't worry, it's still a good car, even as a "relic," and like any relic, problems always arise. In the Celta's case, it's safety. In the crash test, the car didn't absorb the impact of the collision, increasing the risk of head injury for the driver, giving it only 1 star for safety. And because the Celta is a car that has seen a lot of upward trajectory and is easy to find, it's also a target for thieves. 1,472 thefts were recorded in 2019 alone, with a rate of 1,19%.

22 – Nissan March

The March is an admirable vehicle from Nissan; looking at a car like this, you wouldn't imagine there are any problems. But in the crash test, the model offers good head protection for passengers. However, the safety of the driver's legs was considered quite weak, giving the Nissan March a 2-star safety rating for adults. As for children, the impact didn't prevent excessive displacement of the child, but it did prevent head impact with the rear seat of the vehicle, giving it a 1-star safety rating for children. So if you have children, don't buy this car.

Nissan March

21 – Renault Logan

The Logan had an excellent proposition to enter the market and compete head-to-head with high-level competitors, but it's impossible to compete head-to-head if the vehicle is on the list of the most stolen in the country. Thieves choose this vehicle because they say it's "easy," which can be very worrying. In 2019 alone, 563 Logan thefts were recorded throughout the year, with a theft rate of 1,03%.

Logan

20 – Peugeot 207

While some may dream of owning a French car, the Peugeot is the worst choice. In crash tests, even with dual airbags, the seatbelts and airbags were unable to prevent the driver's chest from hitting the steering wheel during the collision, resulting in a 2-star safety rating for adults. Last year, 316 thefts of the 207 were recorded, with a rate of 0.86%. Not to mention that its successor (Peugeot 208) is considered one of the cars with the most problems. The Peugeot 207 is one of the worst cars in Brazil. If you want a French car, consider another option and don't throw your money away.

Peugeot 207

19 – Fiat Punto

I can't say that the Punto is one of the worst cars in Brazil. It's sturdy, has good mechanics, everything is in good condition, and it satisfies the consumer. Its problem is that every year it becomes a target for thieves, and last year alone there were 433 reported thefts of the Fiat Punto, with a theft rate of 1%.

Punto

18 – Nissan Tiida

Perhaps this "nobody" knows. The car didn't gain market share and served as mere decoration for dealerships. The main reason for this is the vehicle's poor durability. In the crash test, passenger head protection was considered low, while neck and chest safety for occupants presented a medium risk. Even earning 3 stars for adult safety, the installation of the recommended child seat wasn't enough to restrain the dummy in the impact, and the mandatory instructions weren't there either. A 1-star rating represents a tremendous risk for children up to 3 years old in this car.

Nissan Tiida

17 – Volkswagen Fox

The Fox is an affordable car for various social classes, which is why it's so well-known. Its body style allows you to work with the vehicle, whether as a ride-sharing driver or much more. And obviously, thieves know this too, and for years the Volkswagen Fox has been a target for them. With 1,083 thefts registered in 2019, and a theft rate of 0.94%, the Volkswagen Fox is one of the most stolen cars in Brazil.

VW Fox

16 – Renault Sandero

A well-known Renault car with many qualities. Therefore, I can't say the Sandero is one of the worst cars in Brazil. But its durability leaves something to be desired. In crash tests, the car's dashboard structure was considered dangerous, as it could injure passengers' knees in a collision, hence it received a 1-star rating for adult safety. Not to mention that last year alone, 1,251 Renault Sanderos were reported stolen, with a rate of 0.78%.

Sandero

15 – Ford Ka

The economical car that Brazilian families love. In terms of collision resistance, it's efficient. However, in recent years, with its updates and other details, the Ford Ka has been considered one of the cars that has the most problems. One of the biggest issues is the cooling system; therefore, overheating can occur more frequently, causing the driver more headaches. And according to the website Minutos Seguros, it's not easy to find Ford car parts, so preserve it, because even with these problems, it's not one of the worst cars in Brazil.

Ford Ka Hatch

14 – Daewoo Espero

This still-living relic has had several owners across Brazil, and that's the main problem. It's on the list of the most difficult cars to resell. Because it's imported, not sold in dealerships, and has a less-than-attractive appearance, the Daewoo Espero has a high rejection rate in the market. Its depreciation was inevitable; now it's just become one of the worst cars in Brazil made for the used car market.

Daewoo Espero

13 – Citroën C3

Let's face it, the C3 is out of fashion. It may be a good car, with a beautiful body and an eye-catching design, but its mechanical problems are inevitable. When we talk about maintenance, which is absolutely necessary, the price of the Citroën C3 is anything but cheap; compared to relatively "cheaper" cars, the maintenance cost is absurd. Besides having suspension problems, on roads with poor asphalt, as we easily find in Brazil, it has some difficulties.

Citroën C3

12 – Fiat Marea

Another still-living relic manufactured by Fiat that has suffered extremely high depreciation in the market. In Brazil, it was launched with a 2.0 20V engine producing 142 hp and 18.1 kgfm of maximum torque. Today it is considered "the car that nobody wants to buy." Highly depreciated and not even worth the price on used car resale platforms.

Fiat Marea

11 – Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is one of the best vehicles ever produced by Honda. We would never say that the Civic is one of the worst cars in Brazil. It has excellent durability and high quality. But its main problem, which scares many drivers, is that it is one of the main targets of thieves. It has been on the list of most stolen cars since 2005, and last year there were 885 registered thefts, with a rate of 0.70%. It's a good choice if you want to "show off," but know that thieves want that too.

Honda Civic

10 – Peugeot 208

Just like its predecessor – already mentioned here – which is one of the worst cars in Brazil, the 208 easily makes the list. The Peugeot 208 has problems with its suspension. It's definitely not the best choice for handling bumpy roads and potholes. Adding to the problems are a lack of technical information, scarce parts, and, naturally, expensive maintenance. Without a doubt, the Peugeot 208 is one of the worst model redesigns ever.

Peugeot 208

9 – Volkswagen Polo

A car that deteriorated significantly over time, its promotional efforts failed, making it one of the worst cars in Brazil. The Polo 1.0 didn't appeal much to Brazilian consumers, and Volkswagen had to end its production in the same year it was launched, 2003. It suffered significant depreciation, making it one of the cheapest cars in Brazil.

VW Polo

8 – Ford Fiesta

A well-maintained, affordable car, if protected and safe, becomes an ideal car, so I won't include it among the worst cars in Brazil. It presents similar problems to the Ford Ka. The cooling system is flawed, which can cause overheating, and critical engine problems can occur more easily than expected. And this is another model where, according to Minutos Seguros, parts are very difficult to find, which is why repairs take a long time. The advice here is: preserve your car and perform regular preventative maintenance.

New Fiesta

7 – Ford Ecosport

The Ford EcoSport is an excellent car; it's difficult to say it's one of the worst cars on the Brazilian market. Over eight years, the model underwent several changes with new features, different versions, and the removal of the 1.0 option – which wasn't very popular. The EcoSport 1.0 was disapproved of by consumers and the specialized media; reselling it is almost impossible, which is why it's common to find it at very low prices in the used car market.

Ecosport

6 – Mercedes A-Class

At the Geneva Motor Show, the Mercedes A-Class was presented for the first time in 1997. It started well, with good sales, but with its high price and the dollar constantly rising at that time, sales plummeted. In 2002, it had over 8,000 sales, but by 2005 that number had fallen to 3,499. If even Mercedes itself can't sell it, imagine trying to resell it?

Mercedes A-Class

5 – Fiat Linea

With years on the market between 2008 and 2017, the Fiat Linea replaced some models that Ford wanted to renew but didn't quite succeed. With sales fluctuating, the Linea depreciated and became a very difficult car to resell, so avoid it!

Fiat Linea

4 – Cherry Qq

Many people know the beloved and cheapest Japanese car in Brazil. It might be surprising that it has such a low price and doesn't present any problems, but since it's on this list, perhaps the QQ is one of the worst cars in Brazil. The Chery suffers from some design flaws. Although it drives well in the city, over time the parts of this vehicle don't hold up to daily use, breaking easily, consequently making it one of the most difficult vehicles to resell, even in the used car market. What was cheap at the beginning became expensive later.

New QQ

3 – Chery Celer

Another Chinese car on our list, this time the Celer, sold in Brazil since 2013. The Celer has good interior finishing and great design; however, it falls short in terms of finish and after-sales service. It also competes with other Chinese cars like the JAC J3, Lifan 320, and Renault Sandero, which makes it even more difficult.

Chery Celer

2 – Peugeot 408

Perhaps this is the biggest surprise on our list. But don't worry, it's not here because it's one of the worst cars in Brazil; it's here because its after-sales service is extremely difficult. The vehicle competes directly with the Honda Civic, Citroën C4 Lounge, and Toyota Corolla, which makes life difficult for the 408. All things considered, it's still a good car, but you need to be careful when reselling it.

Peugeot 408

1 – Fiat Idea

The Fiat Idea family car has a design flaw that causes owners a lot of headaches. The automated transmission (Duologic) doesn't fit well with the car and frequently malfunctions. Even after maintenance, it still presents problems. The Fiat Idea could be a perfect family vehicle, but it's one of the worst cars in Brazil.
