Maserati MC20: The beginning of a new era.
Maserati originated in the beautiful Italian city of Modena, and the fact that it was born there gives it a rather arduous mission.
The Italian automaker is now part of the Stellantis Group – which was created from a merger of FCA and PSA. The intention of the new group is to give special attention to all the brands involved in this union.
Thus, the mission of the Maserati MC20 is to usher in a new era for all brands and reclaim lost ground to competitors both on the streets and on the racetrack.
Motorization
The MC20's engine is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 developed by Maserati itself, capable of producing 630 horsepower and an incredible torque of 74.4 kgfm.
This power unit also features Formula 1 technology with a dual injection system and pre-chamber combustion, allowing for extra power gains.
Coupled to this special engine is an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
With all this technological equipment, the MC 20 reaches 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and can achieve an incredible top speed of 325 km/h.
Computer-aided design
As many know, a sports car isn't just about the engine. Aerodynamics also plays a major role when it comes to performance.
Therefore, the design and aerodynamics of the Maserati MC20 were developed and perfected through a great deal of hard work.
The design team conducted over a thousand computer simulations in the wind tunnel of Dallara – an Italian company and construction firm. cars Competition for a wide variety of categories, including Formula 1 and IndyCar.
With all this simulation work, the MC20 has a drag coefficient lower than 0.38, which gives it greater stability and speed loading without any kind of loss.
High adhesion power
In addition to its aerodynamic power, another feature of the MC20 that stands out is its high level of grip.
The model features flowing lines without any moving appendages and with a small spoiler. All of this was designed to improve downforce.
The suspension features adjustable shock absorbers, giving the vehicle excellent grip. The Maserati MC20 literally sticks to the ground.
In a sports car, braking ability is just as important as acceleration power. Therefore, this model features Brembo brakes with 390 mm diameter carbon-ceramic discs on the front wheels and 360 mm on the rear, with double wishbones on both axles.
Weight-to-power ratio
Weighing 1468 kg and with a power output of 630 horsepower, this model boasts an excellent power-to-weight ratio; the exact value is 2.33 kg for each horsepower.
This index is only possible thanks to the use of high-quality materials such as carbon fiber, known for its low weight and high resistance.
Dimensions
With room for only two occupants, the MC20 is considered a coupé. The supercar is 4,660 mm long, 1,965 mm wide, 1,221 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
The model has two trunks: one in the front and one in the rear. Together, they offer a total capacity of only 150 liters.
Interior minimalism
The interior of the model has an unusual minimalism for a sports car and... luxury.
The main functions are grouped on the 10-inch multimedia center screen or on the steering wheel itself, which includes engine start and launch control buttons.
Finally, on the console there is a rotary button whose function is to allow the selection of the five driving modes, which are:
- Wet: Wet track;
- GT;
- Sport;
- Corsa;
- ESC Off: Traction and stability control disabled.
And as you'd expect from a Maserati, the MC20's doors open upwards!
Hybrid and electric versions are expected.
Following the trend in the global automotive industry, in addition to the combustion-only version, the MC 20 will also be available in a hybrid version and an electric 100% version.
According to the automaker, the future electric version It will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 310 km/h. The electric MC20 has a range of 323 kilometers.
