JAC iEV 330P

With the launch of the JAC iEV 330P, the Chinese automaker aims to be a pioneer in the Brazilian electric pickup truck segment. Although electric cars It's not unusual to see a car powered solely by electricity on our streets; it's still a rare sight.

In some European countries, the electrification of vehicles is seen as an irreversible trend, as some nations have banned the production of combustion engine vehicles from 2025 and vehicles powered by fossil fuels by 2040.

Because of this, the race towards electric technology has become intense.

A recent study published in 2019 states that the electric vehicle market in Europe should... triple by 2025 and spread more slowly to other parts of the world.

Although Brazil has high oil reserves and a large capacity for ethanol production, many people and automakers have already realized that vehicles powered by renewable energy are the future, especially from an environmental perspective.

Looking to the future and still trying to gain the trust of Brazilians, JAC has 5 electric vehicles in its portfolio. These include three cars, one truck, and one pickup truck, the iEV 330P, which we will discuss today.

JAC iEV 330P: The first electric pickup truck in Brazil.

At the end of 2019, Tesla made a big marketing fuss to launch the Cybertruck, a controversial electric pickup truck that will only be released in 2021.

At the same time, the Rivian R1T, which was scheduled to debut in 2020, also had its release postponed to 2021.

Therefore, with all these advancements, it will be up to JAC Motors to bring the first true electric pickup truck to Brazil, the JAC iEV 330P, which can already be reserved and should have its first units delivered between October and November of this year.

Clean and conservative design.

The Chinese brand is known for its unique personality when designing its cars, imbuing its vehicles with an exaggerated futuristic feel that is often considered excessive.

But the iEV330P is an example of a model that has a distinctive look compared to the rest of the brand's vehicles. The pickup truck doesn't feature large amounts of blue or flashy, futuristic details.

In fact, the design is rather conservative and reminiscent of the pickup trucks that were around here 10 years ago.

JAC iEV 330P
The JAC iEV 330P has a clean and conservative design.

Overall, this is a positive point. After all, the overall design isn't unpleasant, even though it's quite conservative.

There are just the right amount of chrome details. Especially on the front, which has an imposing style without any creases or elaborate solutions.

At the rear, the lines are simple and direct. However, the edges of the cargo bed are a little low, which slightly affects the aesthetic harmony and may hinder cargo accommodation.

Cabin and comfort

The interior of the JAC iEV 330P offers some pleasant surprises in certain specific details.

Although it doesn't impress like larger pickup trucks, its cabin has a clean look. It's relatively easy to find all the functions inside.

There are brown leather accents on the dashboard, and while the finish isn't exquisite, it's still quite good.

Cabine
The cabin is more comfortable in the front.

Even with the plastic finishes, it's easy to see that the parts are of good quality and fit together well.

In terms of comfort, the front seats are comfortable. However, those traveling in the back have to endure an uncomfortable position where their knees are somewhat elevated.

Something reminiscent of the old pickup trucks from the 2000s, like the old... Chevrolet S10.

Engine, range and fuel consumption

The JAC iEV 330P has an electric motor powered by a 67 kWh battery that delivers approximately 150 horsepower with a torque of 33.6 kgfm.

It has good power, but it's not universally praised in terms of acceleration.

Another interesting point about the electric pickup truck is its range of up to 320 kilometers. Enough for urban commutes and also for trips without major worries.

Motor
The engine offers good range, but at low speeds.

However, the driver can't be in a hurry. After all, the iEV 330P has a top speed limited to 98 km/h and it takes a while to reach it.

According to JAC, the cost of electricity consumption is R$ 11 for every 100 kilometers driven. Furthermore, the pickup truck will be equipped with a charging system similar to the iEV40 electric vehicle.

This will make it possible to charge the pickup truck using a conventional 110 or 220 volt outlet.

But it's important to keep in mind that under these conditions, the charging time will be much longer than at a charging station.

Suspension is a weak point.

The iEV 330P has dynamic handling, making it very good for driving on smooth surfaces like asphalt. However, when driven on uneven surfaces such as dirt roads or potholed streets, the pickup truck struggles.

The traditional tire pressure of Chinese cars, known for being soft, hinders even the absorption of minor impacts. When going over small bumps, the entire impact is automatically transmitted to the passengers.

Standard features

The pickup truck doesn't come with an extensive list of standard features, even though it has a lot of technology on board.

There are no features such as collision warning, autonomous braking, or other types of driving assistance such as stability or traction control found in traditional pickup trucks.

The JAC iEV 330P aims to offer comfort and practicality for those who will use it for work and nothing more.

Itens de série
The pickup truck has few standard features.

Thus, it is equipped with items such as air conditioning, electric power steering and electric windows on all four doors, multimedia center, reversing camera, alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, fog lights and rear parking sensors.

Although it is electric and innovative in this regard, pickup truck It's very basic when it comes to accessories!

Safety and maintenance

When it comes to safety, the iEV 330P isn't a pickup truck that prioritizes safety. It only comes with ABS brakes and dual airbags, which are mandatory by law, and nothing more.

Maintenance is perhaps the biggest draw for attracting customers. The manufacturer claims that expenses for replacing parts are lower than for combustion engine vehicles.

Segurança
iEV 330P's safety is basic.

That's because an electric car doesn't have a gearbox, oil filter, belts, and many other components found in vehicles powered by gasoline, ethanol, or diesel.

Studies conducted by JAC Motors estimate a cost up to six times lower per kilometer driven compared to a traditional vehicle. The company has not yet defined the maintenance costs.

Dimensions and values

The pickup truck is quite robust. It measures 5.61 meters in length, has a wheelbase of 3.38 meters, is 1.88 meters wide, and 1.97 meters high.

In terms of price, anyone wanting to pay for the pioneering experience of driving Brazil's first electric pickup truck will have to shell out the hefty sum of R$ 289,990. A price well above that of many traditional pickup trucks on the road here.

Conclusion

It's interesting to note that the iEV 330P is literally alone in terms of competition in Brazil and worldwide.

We could point to some combustion-powered pickup trucks to rival the electric launch, but since they are different products, the comparisons would be unfounded.

It is important to emphasize that this model is set to be a pioneer on an irreversible path towards vehicles powered by renewable energy.
