It's no longer a secret that Hyundai has decided to definitively enter the pickup truck segment. The South Korean brand is actually preparing two launches: a mid-size model for 2023, named Tarlac, and a mid-size/compact pickup truck called Santa Cruz. 

The Hyundai Santa Cruz aims to enter the SUP – Sport Utility Pick-Up – category. This category currently has only one representative, and therefore faces no competition in terms of sales: the Fiat Toro. 

According to information and some spy photos, the Santa Cruz will have a similar size to the Italian manufacturer's SUP. The slightly more compact size is a direct result of the structural sharing it will have with the... SUV already known from the brand: The Hyundai Tucson.

Executives at the automaker disappointed many by previously stating that the Hyundai Santa Cruz's design will not be the same as that used in the concept model presented in 2015. 

The South Korean manufacturer's focus is on having a SUP (Super Skateboard) more geared towards urban use than heavy-duty work, and the target audience is young adults aged 30 to 35.

Therefore, the cargo area must have enough space to carry camping equipment, motorcycles, bicycles, or other items for practicing sports activities.

According to information from the manufacturer, the production process for the model has already begun. The Hyundai Santa Cruz's design will be aligned with the company's visual identity. The Palisade SUV, which is not present in the Brazilian market, was the main design inspiration for the new pickup truck. 

It is important to highlight that Hyundai recently stated that it has promised to end the strategy of using the same design for all of its cars, thus giving each model a distinct and unique appearance. 

Therefore, we can expect the Santa Cruz to be a model with a lot of character, capable of impressing everyone. Besides trying to dethrone the Fiat Toro, automotive experts claim that the model will compete with all pickup trucks sold in Brazil. 

Hyundai has been keeping most of the information regarding the Santa Cruz under wraps. However, what we know so far is that the model will feature a double cab and capacity to comfortably carry 5 passengers. 

Although designed for urban use, factory accessories such as extenders, rails, and tie-down hooks should be included in the Hyundai Santa Cruz's truck bed.

The engine options for the Hyundai Santa Cruz are among the most sought-after pieces of information for those awaiting new details about the pickup truck. Regarding the engine, transmission, and even fuel consumption figures for the Latin American and South American markets, the manufacturer has yet to release any information. 

However, the vehicle is expected to have a diesel engine and be powerful enough to compete with the already established models that have been on the market for some time. 

While there's no news yet about the engine options here, it's already known that in the US, the Hyundai Santa Cruz will have two engine options available: a 2.4 naturally aspirated and a 2.0 turbo, both gasoline-powered. 

These are powertrain engines that are already used in other models of the brand there and should be sufficient to meet the needs of the pickup truck. In both options, the transmission will be automatic, with the option of front-wheel or all-wheel drive, depending on the version. 

As we mentioned, the automaker has kept information about the Hyundai Santa Cruz secret.

For now, the model does not have a release date. launch Here in Brazil, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's likely that the model's debut in Brazilian dealerships will only occur in 2021. 

Similar to the launch, the versions and prices of the Santa Cruz are not yet defined, but considering its main competitor, the Fiat Toro, as well as other pickup trucks sold here, it's possible to imagine that the model will have prices ranging from R$95,000 to R$140,000, with different ranges of versions available.
