The main new features of the 2021 Hyundai HB20
Back in mid-2020, the automaker had already made the first changes available to the Hyundai HB20 2021. As many had already expected, the changes were minor.
The cheaper, entry-level versions, which feature the 1.0 naturally aspirated engine, have received minor changes to their equipment package.
Visually, the main change was made to the front grille, which is now painted black.
In addition, there are new taillights for the Vision and Evolution versions. They are the same as those used on the HB20X.
Another change made by Hyundai concerned the list of optional equipment.
The brand opted to unify some safety features instead of offering them separately.
With this, items such as traction and stability control, hill start assist, emergency braking signal and side airbags come in a package that costs R$1,000 in the Sense version.
In the Evolution version, a reversing camera and side airbags are added for the same price.
The updates also extend to the 1.6-liter engine versions.
In this case, the changes were also applied to the equipment. In the 2021 Hyundai HB20, these models received some modifications that go beyond the black grille.
Now available are 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, taillights identical to those of the HB20X, and automatic headlights. All of this comes standard on the Vision version.
If the chosen version has an automatic transmission, the 2021 HB20 also gains a central armrest.
Design
The front of the 2021 Hyundai HB20 now has a more pointed and aggressive shape, marked by the new grille that occupies a large part of the front.
According to the manufacturer, it has a cascading effect. The elongated headlights continue to make their presence felt, faithfully following the creases present on the hood.
Viewed from the side, a new black appliqué can be seen on the C-pillar of the model, connecting the side windows to the rear window. This solution was also adopted by the Nissan Kicks.
The rear now features lower-positioned taillights that also offer a new lighting signature, proving quite attractive at night.
In general, it's safe to say that, although many deny it, the 2021 Hyundai HB20 is indeed beautiful!
Interior
Inside, the 2021 HB20 underwent more radical changes.
The dashboard features lighter, more horizontal lines, and the highlight is the 8-inch floating multimedia screen.
The top-of-the-line Diamond Plus version features a distinctive brown finish throughout, including on the seats.
And since we're talking about the finish, this one also includes blue details throughout the dashboard, in the stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and gearshift knob.
The platform used in the 2021 version is the same as the previous generation. However, the wheelbase is 3 cm longer, resulting in an increase of almost 5 centimeters in legroom in the rear seats.
The trunk capacity remained at 300 liters, which isn't much, but it's not little either.
The 2021 Hyundai HB20 is 3.94 meters long, 1.72 meters wide, 1.47 meters high, and has a wheelbase of 2.53 meters.
Wide color palette
When we talk about car colors in Brazil, it's very common for models and manufacturers to opt for traditional and well-defined colors.
However, for 2021 Hyundai opted to make some changes in this regard.
Therefore, it is safe to say that the 2021 HB20 has a wide range of colors available, allowing for extensive customization of the vehicle.
The available colors are:
- Pearlescent Magic Red;
- Solid Onyx Black;
- Solid Atlas White;
- Metallic Sand Silver;
- Metallic Brisk silver;
- Metallic Silk Gray.
Connectivity is pleasing.
The connectivity of the 2021 HB20 is pleasant and includes interesting features for a vehicle with a more popular appeal.
We'll now show you the main components and accessories that make up the model's connectivity!
8-inch Central Blue Media
The star of the 2021 HB20's connectivity is the new floating multimedia center with an 8-inch touchscreen.
The device is capable of connecting to smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.
In addition, there is the possibility of Bluetooth connection with audio streaming, access to the phonebook and call history, MP3 player, USB connection, audio controls and buttons on the steering wheel.
USB ports
The model features USB ports in the center console for charging smartphones and other electronic devices.
This charging option ensures a more connected, fun, and consequently enjoyable trip!
Multifunctional steering wheel
Another point that stands out in the HB20 is the multifunctional steering wheel.
In the more complete versions, the multifunction steering wheel allows you to make changes to the multimedia system, answer calls, and, if the model has an automatic transmission, it is possible to change gears using the paddle shifters.
Security
The safety features of the 2021 Hyundai HB20 also please many. The model has a number of devices capable of making driving safer and more assertive. Let's now learn about each of them.
4 airbags
The 2021 HB20 comes standard with 4 airbags. There are two front airbags and two side airbags designed to provide maximum safety for occupants in the event of a collision.
Hill start assist
Dubbed HAC, the hill start assist system in the 2021 HB20 is a lifesaver.
Like other models, the system prevents the car from rolling backward before moving forward, thus avoiding accidents or incidents.
ESP System
The ESP system jointly controls the stability and traction of the 2021 HB20.
With this system, the car maintains its trajectory in case of loss of stability, since the brakes and engine interact with the system to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle.
Tire pressure monitoring
There are sensors installed in the wheels that send alerts to the dashboard when the tire pressure drops.
This is a safety measure and also an economic one, since driving with underinflated tires causes premature wear.
Three-point seatbelt for everyone
The HB20 offers three-point seat belts for all occupants, thus ensuring higher levels of safety for rear seat passengers.
Autonomous braking system
The Autonomous Emergency Braking System, unique in its category, uses the windshield camera to identify cars and pedestrians ahead.
In the event of a collision risk, an audible warning is emitted and the brakes are applied.
Lane Departure Warning
Using a camera located on the windshield, the system can identify the lanes ahead, and if the vehicle leaves its lane, the system alerts the driver through lights on the dashboard and an audible warning.
Rearview camera
And to finish off our list of safety features, the 2021 HB20 also includes a rear-view camera system.
With this system, it is possible to view obstacles or pedestrians through the multimedia center and achieve higher levels of safety in different types of maneuvers.
Comfort
With driver and passenger comfort in mind, the 2021 Hyundai HB20 also features several items directly related to comfort. Let's take a look at them?
Progressive electric power steering
The progressive electric power steering of the 2021 HB20 ensures stability at high speeds and makes maneuvering much easier.
Those who have driven the model say that for parking or parallel parking, the electric power steering is like butter.
Twilight sensor
Another feature that ensures both comfort and safety is the twilight sensor, which automatically identifies the absence or presence of light.
With it, the lights are turned on and off in order to provide a safer and more comfortable driving experience for the driver.
Autopilot
In the higher-end versions, the cruise control can be activated, ensuring not only comfort but also peace of mind, as it avoids fines.
Air conditioning
Although Brazil is a tropical country, not everyone enjoys the heat.
For those who prefer a milder climate, the HB20 features a powerful air conditioning system capable of providing comfort on board even in high temperatures.
Smart Key
With the Smart Key system, you can turn your car on and off without any worries.
The proximity sensor is able to identify the presence of the key, and thus both starting and stopping the engine can be done using the Start/Stop button.
Engine and fuel consumption
In total, the 2021 Hyundai HB20 lineup features four different mechanical configurations.
There is engine options 1.0 naturally aspirated flex-fuel engine with manual transmission, 1.6 naturally aspirated flex-fuel engine with manual or automatic transmission, and 1.0 turbo flex-fuel engine with automatic transmission.
