The new features of the 2021 Hyundai Creta

Still in the second half of 2020, Hyundai announced a series of new features for the 2021 Creta lineup, especially regarding the composition and changes in the versions of the compact SUV.

The first change occurred in July, when the brand launched the Limited version, which is aimed at those who want more equipment available without sacrificing power and the acclaimed automatic transmission. car manufacturer

Another major change announced by the brand was the discontinuation of the Smart and Pulse Plus options, making way for the Smart Plus version.

According to Hyundai, the idea was to offer a more complete intermediate option, as well as to streamline the lineup.

Another important detail announced by the automaker in January was the temporary suspension of sales of the Attitude 1.6 automatic version, which was aimed at the disabled community (PCD).

Details of the 2021 Hyundai Creta

A familiar sight to Brazilians, the Hyundai Creta features some rather subtle details for 2021, aiming to boost its sales figures.

Exterior

Visually, the 2021 Hyundai Creta presents a sober yet robust style. In Brazil, its raised front end is unique.

The model gained new contours on the bumper, which now features fog lights, as well as an updated hexagonal grille.

The LED daytime running lights are pleasing, and the waistline is high and reinforced by a series of well-defined creases.

The C-pillars are thick, giving a much greater impression of robustness than the competition in the segment.

The roof is flat with thick beams following the same path and ends at the rear, which features Cleartype taillights that are split by the trunk lid.

Visually, everything is finished off with 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels.

To put it bluntly, the Creta's design is simple, beautiful, and functional. It's practically impossible to find the model ugly.

Interior

The 2021 Creta uses the same platform as its sibling, the Hyundai Elantra, which naturally gives the model more interior space than the HB20.

The interior of the model features tungsten and black tones, creating a great visual appeal, especially on the doors, which have custom handles.

In the Prestige version, the leather seats feature a unique and special shade.

The instrument panel features a clear and comprehensive display that is easily accessible to both the driver and the passenger.

The air conditioning system and the well-designed gearshift lever base give the 2021 Hyundai Creta a very sophisticated and futuristic look.

The multi-function steering wheel features a leather-wrapped design with high-quality stitching and offers easy-to-use height and reach adjustments, resulting in greater comfort and interior space.

The window controls are well positioned, as are those for the exterior mirrors, within easy reach of the driver, but not too far from their hands.

The seats are very comfortable, and the driver's seat has ventilation, a feature that sets the 2021 Creta apart from its competitors.

Furthermore, the model has excellent rear passenger space, featuring a full set of seatbelts, headrest, and Isofix and Top Tether child seat anchors.

Also in the rear, one point that deserves highlighting is the split-folding rear seat, in addition to the central air vents, which enhance the comfort of the occupants in the back.

The interior height is something to consider, as it provides more comfort for those taller than 1.80 meters. And finally, the sound insulation deserves praise.

Dimensions

The dimensions of the 2021 Hyundai Creta are also pleasing.

In total, the SUV measures 4.27 meters in length, 1.78 meters in width, 1.63 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.59 meters.

The trunk has a capacity of 431 liters, which is average for the category and more than adequately accommodates a family of four.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 55 liters of gasoline or ethanol.

Color palette

The 2021 Hyundai Creta is available in the following color palette for buyers:

  • Onyx Black in solid paint;
  • Atlas White in a solid shade;
  • Silver Sand in metallic paint;
  • Brisk silver in a metallic tone;
  • Metallic Silk Gray;
  • Sapphire Blue in pearlescent paint.

After this general introduction to the 2021 Creta, it's time to learn about the features that will propel this SUV to be among the top 10 best-selling cars of the year. Let's check it out!

Amazing technology and connectivity

Today, most cars have a level of technology that borders on the absurd for many people, but Hyundai has managed to go even further with the 2021 Creta.

We'll now show you all the electronic gadgets that this compact SUV has available for its occupants.

blueNav multimedia center

The first item from a technology standpoint is the blueNav Multimedia Center.

With it, both the driver and passengers have guaranteed connectivity available, with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay systems.

Central multimídia agrada pela funcionalidade
The multimedia system is pleasing due to its functionality.

With it, you can make and receive calls, mirror apps, and listen to music directly from your phone. It's a real lifesaver.

Digital TV

One technological feature not found in any other car in Brazil is open digital TV.

In the 2021 Hyundai Creta, it's possible to access all free-to-air TV channels through the Bluemedia multimedia system.

Multifunctional steering wheel

The multifunctional steering wheel is another technological feature that greatly pleases owners.

With precise and strategically positioned buttons, the driver can change songs, make and answer calls, and modify information on the on-board computer without taking their eyes off the road.

 Rearview camera

Although it may be categorized under the security feature, a rear-view camera is still a technological item.

Once reverse gear is engaged, the multimedia system displays a view accompanied by side and depth lines to help the driver perform maneuvers.

Start/Stop System

With practicality and convenience in mind, the 2021 Hyundai Creta features a Start/Stop system.

Through a proximity recognition system, the vehicle knows that the key is nearby and allows the engine to be started with a simple touch of the start button.

Keyless System

The keyless system also works with proximity sensors that automatically unlock the doors when the driver approaches and lock them when they move away, ensuring even greater comfort and ergonomics.

Ventilation system in the driver's seat

The driver deserves some privileges, right? With that in mind, Hyundai decided to lend a hand and installed a ventilation system in the driver's seat. It's technology working for comfort.

On-board computer

The on-board computer of the 2021 Hyundai Creta features an Advanced Supervision Cluster that has been completely improved, providing the driver with a range of accurate and detailed information about the vehicle.

Computador de bordo é ponto positivo
Onboard computer is a positive point.

Through the on-board computer, it is possible to access the total and partial odometer, travel time, average fuel consumption, actual fuel consumption, as well as perform a complete system check to see if there is anything wrong with the vehicle.

Interior rearview mirror dimming

What driver has never been blinded by the headlights of vehicles coming from behind?

Those who choose to have a 2021 Hyundai Creta in their garage will no longer suffer from this type of problem.

As soon as a beam of light hits the rearview mirror, it naturally darkens, preventing any kind of glare for the driver.

Digital air conditioning

Brazil is known for its high temperatures, so air conditioning is almost a survival item that should be a mandatory standard feature.

In the 2021 Creta, the air conditioning is digital, allowing for different temperatures inside the cabin.

In addition, with rear air vents, rear seat occupants can also enjoy the refreshing breeze and have a more comfortable ride.

Wireless charger

Following the trend of its competitors, the Creta features an inductive cell phone charging system compatible with smartphones that have WPC QI technology.

Carregador sem fio é atrativo necesário
Wireless chargers are a necessary attraction.

Therefore, those who forget their cords don't need to worry about running out of power.

Folding mirrors

As soon as the car is stopped and turned off, the exterior mirrors automatically fold in. This is a safety measure, especially in Brazil's chaotic traffic.

First-class security

After concluding that the 2021 Hyundai Creta is a true powerhouse in terms of technology, comfort, and connectivity, it's time to learn about the systems that ensure the safety of the compact SUV's occupants.

6 Airbags

The first safety feature is always airbags. Legend has it that the more airbags a car has, the safer it is.

6 airbags garantem segurança a bordo
Six airbags ensure safety on board.

The Creta has a total of 6 airbags spread throughout the cabin. There are two front airbags, two side airbags, and two curtain airbags that ensure the safety of all occupants in the event of a collision.

Traction and stability controls

The traction and stability controls in the 2021 Hyundai Creta work in combination.

Both systems ensure that all four wheels have maximum grip and performance.

As soon as the systems detect a lack of traction or stability, the brakes are applied and the engine speed is automatically adjusted so that the driver can regain grip and control.

Cornering lamp system

The cornering lamp system, also called a corner light, automatically illuminates the driver's side field of vision whenever a blind turn is made.

Tecnologias aumentam a segurança
Technologies increase security.

This provides greater safety for the driver and passengers, as well as for potential pedestrians and vehicles that may be coming from the opposite direction.

Rain and twilight sensors

Rain and twilight sensors also ensure the safety of those who choose a 2021 Creta.

Upon detecting the absence of natural light, the headlights are automatically switched on. The same applies to the windshield wipers, which automatically activate upon detecting the first drops of rain.

Parking sensors

Combined with the rearview camera, parking sensors help the driver perform a wide variety of maneuvers when parking the SUV.

Hill start assist

And last but not least, the 2021 Creta features hill start assist, which keeps the car braked for a few seconds after the brake pedal is released and the accelerator pedal is pressed.

This prevents the vehicle from rolling backward and causing any kind of... accident or incident.

Engine, fuel consumption and performance

Another point that draws a lot of attention in the 2021 Hyundai Creta is its engine options, as we will show below.

1.6 and 2.0 engines

The South Korean compact SUV has two engine options, a 1.6 and a 2.0.

The 1.6 engine is a naturally aspirated Gamma engine that features DUAL CVVT variable valve timing, DOHC double overhead camshafts, and four valves per cylinder.

When fueled with gasoline, it generates 123 horsepower, and with ethanol it reaches 130 horsepower. The torque is 16 and 16.5 kgfm respectively.

Creta conta com duas opções de motor
Creta has two engine options.

The 1.6 engine offers two transmission options: a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. This engine is a familiar feature in the Hyundai-Kia lineup and is present in many other models.

The second engine option is the naturally aspirated 2.0 Nu. It features an aluminum cylinder head block, Dual CVVT variable valve timing, DOHC double overhead camshafts, and four valves per cylinder.

In terms of power, it is capable of developing 156 horsepower on gasoline and 166 on ethanol, with torques of 19.1 kgfm and 20.5 kgfm, respectively.

This engine is powerful, has good torque, and is only available with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Nu 2.0 is already well-known and equips some of the manufacturer's models, such as the Hyundai Elantra, since 2019, for example.

Performance

In terms of performance, all engines and gearboxes perform well and are quite pleasing.

With its 1.6 engine and manual transmission, the 2021 Creta reaches 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds and has a top speed of 172 km/h.

The same 1.6 engine, but with an automatic transmission, reaches 100 km/h after 12 seconds of full acceleration. Its top speed is also 172 km/h.

Finally, the 2.0 Nu engine with a six-speed automatic transmission reaches 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 188 km/h. Not bad for a car weighing almost 1500 kg, is it?

Consumption

Considering its power-to-weight ratio, the 2021 Hyundai Creta offers good fuel economy, as you'll discover now.

With a 1.6 engine and manual transmission, the average fuel consumption in urban use is 7.6 km/L with ethanol and 10.5 km/L with gasoline. In highway use, these figures rise to 8.2 km/L and 11.7 km/L respectively.

With the 1.6 engine, but with an automatic transmission, the SUV achieves an urban average of 7.1 km/L with ethanol and 10.1 km/L with gasoline, while on highways these figures rise to 8.2 km/L and 11.3 km/L respectively.

With the 2.0 engine, the average fuel consumption in the city is 6.5 km/L with ethanol and 8.2 km/L with gasoline. On the highway, these figures increase to 10 km/L and 11.4 km/L respectively.

Hyundai Creta 2021: Prices and values

As you can easily see, the 2021 Creta is a very comfortable car, boasts extensive technological features and high levels of safety. Furthermore, it has competitive pricing in the market.

Therefore, it should indeed be considered as an option for those seeking a compact SUV to call their own.

To keep you informed, we'll now show you the main advantages and disadvantages of owning a 2021 Hyundai Creta.

Advantages and disadvantages of the 2021 Hyundai Creta.

As we just showed you, the Creta is a more than complete model and perfectly meets the expectations of those looking for a compact SUV to drive in comfort and safety.

But just as important as knowing its equipment, accessories, and safety features is understanding how the model performs in everyday use, and that's what you're about to find out.

Advantage: Beauty

The first positive aspect of the Hyundai Creta is its beauty.

First and foremost, a vehicle needs to be attractive, because as we've said many times here, ugly cars don't sell.

Hyundai Creta é muito bonito
The Hyundai Creta is very beautiful.

The 2021 Hyundai Creta is simple, robust, and possesses a straightforward beauty. Without any extravagance, the compact SUV pleases even those with the most discerning tastes.

Advantage: Interior space

Unlike most of its direct competitors, the Creta is based on a mid-size model from... markIn this case, the base model is the Elantra.

This allows it to offer ample interior space for all occupants, both in the front and rear.

In the back seat, three adults can travel comfortably and also benefit from exclusive air vents that ensure coolness when the air conditioning is on.

And to conclude the matter of space, the model also has one of the most spacious trunks in its category, with 431 liters.

Advantage: Comfortable ride.

Another feature inherited from a mid-size car is ride comfort.

The Creta's suspension is capable of filtering EVERYTHING that passes through the wheels and works quietly, while the electric power steering ensures lightness and firmness in just the right measure.

Another noteworthy aspect of the comfort is the cabin's sound insulation. Occupants don't hear external noises, and the high-quality finish filters out engine noise.

Therefore, it's safe to say that the Creta is undoubtedly one of the most comfortable models in its segment.

Extensive list of equipment

To face the fierce competition, the Creta boasts a wide range of features that put it at the top in terms of technology and connectivity.

The main attractions of the 2021 line are the digital TV and the induction cell phone charger, which even comes with an interesting warning not to leave coins or the key fob there.

Lista de equipamentos é grande vantagem
The equipment list is a great advantage.

The LED taillights are as beautiful as they are functional, as are the daytime running lights that aid in driving and enhance the model's aesthetics.

The headlights have projectors, but still retain halogen-type lights, as do the fog lights.

Advantage: Robustness and agility

Although it's a compact SUV, the 2021 Hyundai Creta has a natural robustness. Because of this, the model is able to assert itself almost automatically in traffic, especially in urban use, which ensures greater safety for drivers and occupants.

Furthermore, even weighing around 1500 kg in the version equipped with the 2.0 engine, the model proves to be quite agile, whether for cornering, changing lanes, performing maneuvers, or even turning intersections.

Middle ground: Strange brake

A benchmark in terms of safety due to all the accessories and systems installed, the 2021 Hyundai Creta delivered braking figures within the expected range for its segment.

However, in tests conducted by our experts, the pedal feel presents some differences in daily use. There is a gap between the activation and the action that can be startling for a driver who is not used to it at times.

Furthermore, to handle the nearly 1500 kg and the power of the 2.0 engine, it deserved disc brakes on all four wheels.

With rear drum brakes, it's common for the system to experience fatigue and lose some of its efficiency.

Our experts even thought it might be a problem with the unit tested, but after conducting a detailed investigation, we found that this is a common characteristic of the model.

Disadvantage: The 2.0 engine is a gas guzzler.

When compared to its rivals, the Creta with the 2.0 engine is one of the most fuel-thirsty compact SUVs in its segment.

This conclusion can be reached not from the average of 10 km/L with ethanol on the highway, but from the 6.5 km/L achieved in urban driving.

Fuel consumption is actually one of the main criticisms of the 2.0 engine model, even though it has a Start/Stop system that helps with fuel economy.

But since we should always look at the glass half full, the 2.0 engine delivers good performance, even if the transmission can make some unnecessary downshifts at times.

Disadvantage: Excessive use of plastic in the finish.

The 2021 Hyundai Creta features well-fitted, high-quality parts in the assembly of its cabin interior.

However, given that it is obviously a more expensive model than the HB20 and has the same level of finish as the Hatchback, it is something that deserves to be highlighted.

Furthermore, it's important to remember that the HB20 is very likely to undergo some changes in the coming months, potentially bringing some kind of evolution in this regard.

Acabamento poderia ser superior
The finish could be better.

With its excessive use of hard plastics on the dashboard and door panels, the Creta is on par with some direct rivals, but it may fall a little short when compared to the Jeep Renegade or the Honda HR-V.

Conclusion

After learning all about what the 2021 Hyundai Creta has to offer, it's easy to see that it's an excellent car to have in your garage, isn't it?

Something that has become routine in our vehicle evaluations is that today there is no single example that achieves 100% approval. There will always be some point of disagreement regarding its quality or characteristics.
