Ford Ranger 2021: The main new features

One of the main new features of the 2021 Ford Ranger was the addition of the Storm version, which occurred in 2020, more precisely in March.

The 2021 Ranger Storm comes standard with a more aggressive look, fully geared towards off-road driving, and is always offered with a double cab.

In terms of appearance, this version prominently features the version name on the front grille, as well as stripes on the hood, sides, running boards, fender flares, roll bar, and wheels, all in an exclusive black color.

The lights are tinted, and exclusive accessories such as a snorkel and tonneau cover are also part of the package.

In addition to this new feature for 2021, the pickup truck had previously received other changes that maintained its position as one of the most technologically advanced options in its segment.

In terms of visuals, the Ranger had already undergone updates back in 2020, mainly to the front.

The pickup truck received redesigned grilles, bumpers, headlights, and fog lights, as well as a new paint job on the 18-inch wheels.

The brand's engineers also improved the suspension and the tailgate, which received an assist for opening and closing. This reduced its equivalent weight from 12 kg to 3 kg.

In addition to these new features, the pickup truck received an even greater investment in technology and safety systems, as you will see later.

Exterior and interior details of the 2021 Ford Ranger.

From a visual standpoint, the 2021 Ranger underwent changes that altered its style.

The most striking feature is the new headlights with projector-type lenses, in addition to a more powerful chrome grille on the XLT and Limited versions.

The bumper was also modernized and gained two fog lights. New wheels, including 18-inch rims, were also added.

Ranger
The Ranger is beautiful inside and out.

The door handles have been given a special coating and now have an aluminum-like appearance, giving the pickup truck a more sophisticated look.

There were no changes whatsoever to the rear or the cargo bed.

The stylized roll bar and tonneau cover reinforce the Limited version's commitment, unlike top-of-the-line versions from competitors that exclude these items.

Inside, the model gained a new, more modern and functional dashboard with improved finish and variable shades of gray, as well as an analog-digital cluster with configurable displays for vehicle functions that can be viewed on the multimedia center and adjusted via a new multifunction steering wheel.

There is also a new SYNC multimedia system with an 8-inch screen that stands out in the package, which also includes air conditioning and a selection of driving and safety systems.

And finally, the interior continues to offer excellent legroom for those occupying the rear seats.

Speaking of seats, starting with the Limited version, the seats are upholstered in leather and have electric adjustment for the driver's seat.

After this extensive presentation, it's time to move on to the details that make the 2021 Ranger a truly unique pickup truck. Let's go!

What does the 2021 Ranger have to offer?

We will now show you what the 2021 Ford Ranger has to offer its buyers.

Wide color palette

The first thing you notice about any vehicle is its exterior, and as we've already discussed design, it's important to mention that the pickup truck has a wide range of colors available.

This allows you to choose your preferred color from a wide variety of options. The options are:

  • Belize Blue;
  • Arctic White;
  • Moscow Gray;
  • Frosted Silver;
  • Black Wales;
  • Bari Red;
  • Tuscan Red.

Now that you know all the colors of the 2021 Ranger, it's time to move on to the other items. Let's go.

Security is amazing.

With the safety of all occupants in mind, the new Ford Ranger offers a package with the most advanced safety features in all versions.

AdvanceTrac®: Electronic Stability and Traction Control

The Advance Trac system combines a series of safety components capable of keeping the pickup truck under control throughout the driving period. It consists of:

  • Electronic stability control.
  • Electronic traction control.
  • Hill start assist;
  • Automatic descent control;
  • Anti-rollover system;
  • Emergency braking assistance;
  • Emergency lights for use during sudden braking;
  • Adaptive load control.

All systems work in an integrated way. It's no wonder that the Ranger is considered the safest pickup truck in Brazil.

7 Airbags

The 2021 Ford Ranger has a total of 7 airbags.

Of these 7 airbags, 2 are frontal, 2 are curtain airbags, 2 are side airbags, and 1 is a knee airbag for the driver.

All of these airbags aim to provide the greatest possible protection for all occupants of the cabin.

Adaptive autopilot

The adaptive cruise control automatically adjusts the speed to always maintain a safe distance between the pickup truck and the vehicle ahead.

If the system detects that the vehicle is slowing down, it automatically reduces the speed and, when the lane is clear, returns to the programmed speed.

Collision Alert

When there is a risk of collision, the Collision Alert emits a visual and audible warning on the instrument panel.

In addition, the brakes are pre-loaded, allowing for a quick system response if needed.

Auxiliary parking systems

The Ranger features front and rear parking sensors, making maneuvering quicker and easier.

An audible alert indicates the approach of objects, and when reverse gear is engaged, the rear camera is automatically activated.

The multimedia system displays lanes with steering bars to guide the driver.

Isofix system

The Ranger also features Isofix child seat anchor points.

They provide greater convenience and safety when attaching children's car seats, making the trip even more peaceful.

Automatic high beam

Driving on the country's roads is a pleasurable yet stressful task, especially at night.

The automatic high beam system was developed to assist the driver by automatically switching on and off when it detects a vehicle ahead or in the opposite direction, and then switching back on when there are no vehicles nearby.

In this way, the system provides maximum visibility to the driver throughout the entire journey, ensuring safety.

LED daytime running lights

LED daytime running lights help the driver to see and also to be seen with maximum clarity.

They outperform classic halogen lights when it comes to brightness and efficiency.

Lane keeping system

The Ranger is the only pickup truck in Brazil that has a lane-keeping assist system.

Using a camera on the windshield, the system tracks the lane markings and, upon detecting an unintentional lane departure, applies auxiliary steering torque, causing the vehicle to... pickup truck Return to the center of the track.

Faixa
Ranger is the only pickup truck with a lane-keeping assist system.

In case of repeated deviations, a vibration is automatically applied to the steering wheel and a warning suggesting a stop is also displayed on the dashboard to ensure safer driving.

Autonomous braking assistant and pedestrian detection.

When there is heavy, slow traffic, or due to distractions from pedestrians and animals, they may appear in front of the pickup truck.

Thus, this feature was designed to detect if the vehicle ahead has stopped unexpectedly or a pedestrian has entered the roadway, automatically applying the brakes if the driver is unable to brake in time.

Traffic sign recognition system

The Ranger comes equipped with a sophisticated traffic sign recognition system.

It was designed to increase speed control, allowing the driver to focus solely on the road.

The front camera automatically detects the speed limit on signs and displays the information on the instrument panel. It then provides an audible and visual warning if the driver exceeds the detected limit.

In addition to being a safe system that prevents accidents, it also helps prevent speeding tickets.

Rain Sensor and Electrochromic Rearview Mirror

With the rain sensor, there's no need to worry about the windshield wipers anymore. They start working automatically as soon as they detect the first drops on the glass.

Furthermore, this technology is able to regulate the speed of the wipers according to the intensity of the rain.

The electrochromic rearview mirror reduces light from other vehicles' headlights, preventing glare for the driver.

Technology and connectivity speak volumes.

Like its safety features, the technological prowess of the 2021 Ford Ranger is phenomenal and leaves everyone speechless.

We'll now show you each of the electronic gadgets present in the pickup truck.

SYNC®

SYNC is an innovative and exclusive multimedia system from Ford that comes standard on the new Ranger. It was developed to allow for more intuitive interaction with the pickup truck.

The system features an 8-inch touchscreen in the center console that centralizes all controls and functions in Portuguese.

SYNC
SYNC is very pleasing.

It has entertainment controls, climate control, telephone, GPS with maps, and the ability to mirror apps.

In addition, there are two 4.2-inch LCD screens in the instrument panel, where the driver can configure and view a range of the pickup truck's functions.

The system also features two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and a multifunction steering wheel, which allows you to control audio and navigation functions without taking your hands off the wheel.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The SYNC® system also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto synchronization. This allows you to connect to the pickup truck using iPhones or Android smartphones.

Digital air conditioning

The 2021 Ranger features automatic and digital air conditioning with individual temperature control for the driver and passenger, offering greater comfort to all occupants.

Truck bed opening and closing assistant

Loading the Ranger has become much easier and requires less effort.

This is only possible thanks to the opening and closing assistant which now requires up to 70% less effort to close the tailgate.

Key with proximity sensor and keyless start – Ford Power H3

With the keyless entry and start system, it's possible to get in and out of the pickup truck without taking money out of your pocket.

As soon as the smart access system detects the presence of the key, simply touch the door handle to unlock access, and to start the engine, just press a button.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

As the name suggests, the sensor is able to monitor each of the tires and issues an alert in case of pressure loss.

The system ensures both safety and fuel economy. In other words, it's literally a lifesaver.

Ford Ranger Storm

The Ford Ranger Storm is essentially a pickup truck within a pickup truck. It's a unique version that deserves special attention. Therefore, we'll also be discussing it.

The Ranger Storm's robustness is immediately apparent with its darkened headlights integrated into the front grille and the prominent STORM lettering.

Ford Ranger Storm
Storm impresses with its looks and performance.

All of this, combined with the fender flares and black details on the sides and hood, only serves to show that the Storm is a pickup truck with attitude.

This version includes all the safety features and accessories we've seen previously. The color palette is also the same, but there are some differences in this version that deserve highlighting. Let's take a look at them.

Performance

In terms of performance, the Storm stands out. This is due to its 800 mm wading depth, locking rear differential, and higher engine power.

All of this is combined with special tires that help overcome the most challenging terrains.

Scorpion Tires

The Ranger Storm leaves the dealership equipped with Scorpion AT Plus tires.

This tire was developed exclusively for it and delivers enormous off-road capability.

They facilitate the expulsion of mud, stones, and objects. Furthermore, they improve traction on uneven terrain and slippery surfaces, such as wet grass or mud.

Saint Anthony exclusive

The Ranger Storm also comes equipped with an exclusive roll bar that gives the pickup truck a sportier look.

Its central arch is functional, as it is fixed to the truck bed structure. The side arms, on the other hand, function as extra arms and supports, increasing the depth of the truck bed.

Exclusive accessories

The Ranger Storm features some exclusive accessories that are only available on this version, namely: a snorkel and a tonneau cover.

The snorkel is a safety feature that allows you to cross flooded areas, providing the necessary air for the engine to function. As mentioned, the pickup truck's wading depth is 800 mm.

The tonneau cover, another exclusive feature of the Ranger Storm, ensures a perfect seal with the roll bar.

Engine and fuel consumption

The 2021 Ford Ranger comes with two engine options.

The first option is the 2.2-liter CDTI four-cylinder diesel engine capable of delivering 160 horsepower and 39 kgfm of torque.

The second option is the 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 200 horsepower and reaches 47.9 kgfm of torque.

As you can see, the pickup truck no longer features the 2.5 Flex engine with up to 173 horsepower and 25 kgfm of torque when fueled with ethanol.

For the 2.2-liter engine, there is a choice of manual or automatic transmission, both with six gears, 4x4 drive, and electronic activation, although there is also a five-speed manual option.

Motor
The Ranger comes with two engine options.

The 3.2 engine is only available with an automatic transmission. In this option, the 4x4 drive is also electronically activated.

In both engine options, the average fuel consumption in the city was 8.5 km/liter. On the highway, the 2.2 engine proved to be slightly more economical, with an average of 10.5 km/L. With the 3.2 engine, the average rose to 10.1 km/L.

The performance of both engines is positive.

With a 2.2-liter engine, available with both automatic and manual transmissions, the pickup truck takes 15 seconds to reach 100 km/h and has a top speed of 164 km/h.

With the 3.2 engine, 100 km/h is reached in 11.6 seconds and the top speed is 180 km/h.
