Getting to know the 2021 Fiat Strada

The new Fiat Strada The 2021 model was pre-launched virtually in April, becoming yet another automotive victim of the novel coronavirus pandemic. After some time, the small pickup truck arrived at dealerships, along with new versions, prices, and finally, its arrival on the streets and roads across Brazil.

Evolution of the Fiat Strada

Learn how the model has changed over the years.

Fiat Strada 2021
  • Category: Compact pickup truck;
  • Average new price: R$ 65 thousand;
  • Average price used: R$ 48 thousand;
  • Recommended version: Strada 2021 Freedom 1.3 Cabine Plus;
  • Average city fuel consumption: 11 km/L;
  • Average fuel consumption on the highway: 13 km/L.

When it was launched back in 1996, the Strada was nothing more than a Palio that had been fitted with a truck bed to enter a segment that remains quite popular to this day: that of compact pickup trucks.

With the heavy burden of replacing the trusty Fiorina Pick-up, the Fiat Strada had rivals such as the VW Saveiro and Ford Courier, and over the years it gained strong competitors, such as the Chevrolet Montana and the Peugeot Escapade.

The good news for the Italian automaker is that the Strada has always won these battles, and defying the mentality of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," the 2021 Fiat Strada has changed and continued to evolve.

Between January and November, 69,660 units of the Strada were sold, maintaining its position as the absolute leader in its category, and now you'll understand why.

Discover from every angle what the 2021 Fiat Strada has to offer.

Design is a blend of references.

Ever since the first images were released, the feeling has been that the 2021 Strada would be a version of the Mini Toro.

Generally speaking, it's possible to say that, considering the whole package, it is indeed a smaller version of the pickup truck, but if we look at the details, that idea falls apart.

The front of the 2021 Fiat Strada bears a strong resemblance to the compact Mobi and Argo models. Depending on the version, the headlights may feature LED lighting, although they are more streamlined and larger compared to the automaker's compact cars.

Design
Design is a positive point.

Another point that draws attention is the front grille, which is beautiful, imposing, and larger than on other models from the brand.

Looking at the 2021 Strada from the side, you can notice its simplicity. As Leonardo da Vinci said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Keen observers will notice that the shape and angle of the windshield and the arch formed by the front door are very similar to those of the Fiat Mobi.

The fenders are similarly "bulged," but the wheel arches are not as round as on the compact car; instead, they are more square with rounded corners.

There is a design detail at the junction of the fenders and doors, a failed attempt to disguise the similarity between the models.

The Strada also features 15'' and 16'' wheels fitted with 70% mixed-use tires for asphalt and 30% tires for dirt roads.

At the rear, there's a mix of sensations between the previous generation and the Fiat Toro. Although the taillights look like those used on the pickup truck, they are unique to the Strada, as is the LED signature.

The tailgate is also unique and, like the front grille, features the brand logo in large letters. It opens conventionally, unlike the Toro, whose rear opens to the sides in a double-leaf style.

The dump truck is very appealing.

After discussing the exterior design, it's time to talk about the functionality of the truck bed, which is VERY pleasing.

The 2021 Fiat Strada features a spring that reduces the weight of the tailgate when opening and closing, similar to what is found in the VW Saveiro and the Ranger line since 2020.

The compartment features the option of a tonneau cover and LED lighting that can be activated by a button on top of the dashboard.

Measuring 1.17 m in length, 61 cm in height, and 1.05 m in width, the cargo bed offers good capacity in terms of volume and weight. In total, the new Strada can hold up to 844 liters and carry 650 kg of weight.

One of the highlights of the Strada lies precisely in its previous design, which made the compact pickup truck a benchmark for heavy-duty work under the cargo bed.

This is a rigid, omega-shaped axle that continues into the 2021 version. Known more for its robustness than for the dynamics it can provide, it remains, but has undergone a redesign.

This omega-shaped axle now features new shock absorbers and a single leaf spring with variable thickness, which helps maintain optimal handling even when loaded.

The geometry of the Fiat Strada's cargo bed has undergone a slight alteration, and this is something worth mentioning.

Despite appearances, the 2021 Fiat Strada is only 1 centimeter longer than its previous generation. Its wheelbase is shorter, it's 0.8 cm narrower, and it's 4.5 cm lower.

It may seem like a small thing, but it makes a big difference in terms of stability, handling, and of course, functionality!

Functional and comfortable interior

Although it has less generous dimensions in some crucial aspects, the 2021 Strada is more spacious than ever, especially in the rear section, which in the previous double-cab generation only had 4 seats and barely accommodated children with backpacks.

We can now say that the Strada is a compact, family-friendly pickup truck. With excellent rear door opening angles that reach 80 degrees, accessing the rear seats has become an easy task.

Interior
The interior is functional and pleasant.

It would be wrong not to say that the rear space is more than satisfactory. Three adults of average height can travel comfortably in the back seat, complete with three-point seatbelts and headrests.

For those with children, there are Isofix anchors for two child seats. The only drawback is the lack of another USB port, as there's only one available for rear passengers.

The doors and dashboard are all lined with hard plastic that has a textured surface.

Regarding the dashboard, it's important to emphasize that it's a unique and exclusive piece, although it's easy to see that the inspiration comes from models like the Uno and Mobi, with a digital cluster right in the middle of the speedometer.

The slightly flat-bottomed steering wheel features multifunction controls for the on-board computer and audio controls, centered around a 7'' multimedia screen which we'll discuss later. There's also a USB port and 11 storage compartments in the front.

The seats in the 2021 Strada are made of fabric interspersed with a synthetic material in geometric shapes that is pleasant to look at and sit on. The necessary tools for changing tires are available under the rear seat.

The spare tire is located under the truck bed floor, which is very common in any type of pickup truck.

Finally, the driving position could allow for lower adjustments. The seat is positioned high, very similar to the position used in compact SUVs, which may slightly reduce the field of vision for taller drivers.

The lack of reach adjustment for the steering wheel can be compensated for by the horizontal adjustments of the driver's seat.

Technology flourishing

As we said before, what was good has become even better, and this can be seen in the technology offerings of... Fiat The 2021 Strada features a range of technological components designed to make life easier for the driver and passengers. We'll show you all of them now.

Multimedia Center

The first item is the new 7'' multimedia center that can connect to any smartphone wirelessly.

Central
The multimedia center is functional.

With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems, it's possible to sync apps like Waze, Google Maps, Spotify, and WhatsApp for more comfortable and enjoyable trips.

Steering wheel controls

The multi-function steering wheel is another highlight of the 2021 Fiat Strada. It allows you to control the radio and phone without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

In addition, the steering wheel features an extremely elegant leather finish.

Air conditioning as standard

In addition to ample space, the cabin of the 2021 Strada is enhanced by standard air conditioning in all versions.

The equipment can be used to both heat and cool the cabin, and to help defog the windows in adverse weather conditions.

TFT panel

The TFT panel is a technological attraction in itself that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Centrally located in front of the speedometer, it's possible to customize a range of information that can be viewed instantly on a 3.5-inch display.

Painel TFT
The TFT panel is an attraction in itself.

With it, you can obtain information such as odometer reading, travel time, distance traveled, and average fuel consumption.

Powerful back cover

This technological innovation is both intriguing and functional.

The tailgate of the new Strada is both lightweight and durable. It can be opened and closed with just one hand and can support up to 400 kg of cargo when open.

Amazing security

It's not enough to be beautiful and technologically advanced; it also needs to be safe, and that's another point that needs to be highlighted in the 2021 Strada: your safety.

We'll now show you all the equipment and systems that make the Strada a benchmark in terms of safety.

Airbags

In addition to the front airbags, occupants are also protected laterally thanks to the presence of side airbags. In total, the compact pickup truck has 4 airbags, aiming for maximum protection for all occupants.

Rearview camera and parking sensor

Another feature aimed at safety, especially when parking or maneuvering, is the rear-view camera with dynamic lines that appear on the multimedia center, in addition to the parking sensor that emits an audible alert as it approaches obstacles.

Stability control

Although it is stable by nature due to its overall construction and damping systems, the Strada also features standard stability control.

The system helps the driver maintain direction on sharper curves, uneven terrain, and adverse weather conditions.

Hill Holder System

When the load is heavy, all help is welcome. That's why the 2021 Fiat Strada has the Hill Holder system, which keeps the car stationary and assists with starting on inclines.

This prevents the pickup truck from rolling back several meters or centimeters when starting on ramps, which prevents accidents with other vehicles or incidents with pedestrians.

E-LOCKER System

The E-locker or advanced traction control (TC+) is what will help you get out of obstacles. It identifies the wheel that is spinning and distributes engine power to the other wheel, allowing you to drive on bumpy roads or dirt roads without any problems.

Isofix system

And last but not least, the double cab versions of the 2021 Strada feature the Isofix system.

This is a practical locking device for securing a child seat or baby carrier to the vehicle seat, allowing for the safe and efficient transport of children.

Wide range of accessories

In addition to everything we've shown so far, the 2021 Strada has a wide range of accessories to make it even more functional! In total, there are more than 50 options available; we'll now show you the ones considered the most important.

Truck bed extender

As the name suggests, the largest truck bed in its category can be made even larger thanks to the quick-release bed extender.

Mopar tow hitch

The Mopar tow hitch allows for the removal of the drawbar when not in use, and requires no additional drilling, maintaining the pickup truck's warranty. The ideal option for towing loads of all kinds.

Side step

The side step brings functionality, protection, and style to the pickup truck. All this in just one accessory.

Saint Anthony

The roll bar is more than just an accessory. It's an indispensable item when securing cargo and protecting the truck bed.

Marine canvas

A tonneau cover is the ideal protection for both the truck bed and the cargo, and is recommended for those who value cargo security as well as the structural integrity of the truck bed itself.

Engine and fuel consumption

The 2021 Fiat Strada has two engine options, both offered with a five-speed manual transmission.

The first option is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder flex-fuel engine capable of generating 85 horsepower when fueled with gasoline and 88 with ethanol. The torque is 12.4 kgfm and 12.5 kgfm respectively.

The second option is the 1.3 Firefly engine, also a flex-fuel four-cylinder capable of delivering 101 horsepower with gasoline and 109 horsepower with ethanol. The torque is 13.7 kgfm and 14.2 kgfm respectively.

Strada
The model just got even better.

The expectation lies in the possible (and likely) arrival of the turbo engine, which, judging by everything so far, doesn't seem to be a priority for the automaker.

Internal sources within Fiat's top management claim that a version with a CVT transmission is likely to be launched next year.
