Increasingly digital, DetranSP (São Paulo's Department of Motor Vehicles) has invested in technology to make life easier for citizens. Since May of this year, vehicle licenses have become digital. During this pandemic period, Detran SP decided that the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV) can be issued online.

In this way, the driver no longer needs to go to a Detran (Department of Motor Vehicles) service center, saving time on the annual issuance of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV), a mandatory document that allows the vehicle to circulate.

The change complies with Resolution No. 180/19 of the National Traffic Council (Contran), which mandates the replacement of the physical CRLV (Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate) with an electronic version, called CRLV-e. With the same legal validity, the Digital CRLV benefits more than 30 million car owners in the state of São Paulo.

Even though it's no longer issued by Detran SP and delivered by the Post Office, the process for requesting vehicle documents has become faster and simpler. The service is available on the Detran and Poupatempo portals, as well as the Poupatempo app.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization expanded its online service options by 48% to maintain services for users. There are 64 options available on the portal (www.detran.sp.gov.br) and through the Detran SP app.

Together, Poupatempo and DetranSP offer more than 110 digital services. From May to August of this year, five million digital vehicle registrations were issued in the state of São Paulo.

With the Renavam number, after paying the debts linked to the vehicle and the license fee at self-service terminals, bank branches, internet banking or lottery houses, the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV) will be available for download and printing in the Digital Licensing section on the DetranSP (www.detran.sp.gov.br) and Poupatempo (www.poupatempo.sp.gov.br) portals, in the Federal Government's Digital Traffic Wallet – CDT application, and also in the Denatran services section (https://portalservicos.denatran.serpro.gov.br).
