Therefore, if you are a vehicle owner, it is essential to keep up with your taxes to avoid future problems. So, see below a complete guide on the 2023 IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax)!

Regarding the IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax) 2023

Firstly, the Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) is a mandatory tax for owners or possessors of motor vehicles throughout the national territory.

Furthermore, the tax will be calculated based on the vehicle's value for the current year, and is the responsibility of the tax authorities of each state.

However, it may vary depending on the tariff calculation, which will be available on the respective portal where the query is made.

In the state of São Paulo, for example, the 2023 IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax) will cost 10,77% more than in 2022. This could weigh heavily on the wallets of some unsuspecting owners.

Like all tax revenue, the state will reinvest the funds in public spending. In this sense, in the case of the IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax), by law 20% (twenty percent) of the amount collected will be allocated to FUNDEB (National Fund for the Development of Basic Education).

The remaining percentage will be split 50%. Half will go to the state and the other half to the municipality where the vehicle is registered.

Furthermore, the chambers of each state or municipality are responsible for allocating these funds to various public sectors. For example, the areas of health, education, public safety, and infrastructure.

IPVA 2023: the calculation

The calculation of the 2023 IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax) value is primarily based on the vehicle's purchase and sale value at the end of the last fiscal year, which in this case is the end of the 2022 IPVA validity period.

Therefore, in order to arrive at absolute figures, extensive market research is conducted by a public institution throughout the country.

To this end, the Foundation Institute of Economic Research (FIPE) periodically publishes a table with the average prices for buying and selling new, nearly new, and used vehicles.
