Learn more about the Citroen Ami electric car.
Back in 2019, Citroen unveiled a curious urban electric car to the public, named the Citroen Ami. The model was inspired by its concept car, the Ami One Concept, which measured only 2.41 meters in length.
Due to its size, the vehicle is actually considered a quadricycle in Europe, just like the Renault Twizy.
However, unlike the Twizy, the Ami has an enclosed cabin just like a conventional car, with enough interior space for a driver and passenger to travel comfortably. The model also features interior heating.
Today we're going to show you everything about the Citroen Ami and whether or not the model is coming to Brazil. If you want to stay informed about electric and sustainable automotive mobility, just keep reading.

The Citroen Ami could steal the place of bicycles.
The initial proposal for Ami is that it be used as an alternative to scooters, bicycles, and kick scooters for short trips.
Because it has an enclosed cabin, the smaller vehicle would offer more safety to its occupants compared to two-wheeled vehicles. Furthermore, those who choose the Ami will be protected from the cold and rain.
You don't need a driver's license to drive it.
The little Ami is powered by a rather modest electric motor of only 6 kilowatts.
Therefore, according to French law, the vehicle can be driven by teenagers from the age of 14 without a driver's license.
According to top executives at the automaker, the car was produced with the aim of bringing more sustainability and catering to teenagers, who are currently being overlooked by most automakers worldwide.
Technical specifications
The specifications of the Citroen Ami are basic and peculiar.
The small vehicle measures only 2.41 meters in length, 1.39 meters in width, and 1.52 meters in height. As mentioned, the vehicle is propelled by a 6 KW electric motor powered by 5.5 KW lithium-ion batteries.
The model weighs 485 kg and can reach a top speed of 45 km/h. In total, the model has a range of 75 kilometers and can be charged using a standard wall outlet.
By all indications, the Ami has great potential to stand out among entry-level models produced solely for urban use.
Design
The Citroen Ami looks like a toy car. Its design is linear and rectilinear. If it weren't for a small rear spoiler, when looking at the vehicle from the side it would be difficult to tell if it's going forward or backward.
The body is entirely constructed from reinforced plastic to promote safety and low weight, as the model is designed for urban use and runs solely on electric power.
Comfortable and functional living space
Although compact, the Citroen Ami's interior offers plenty of space and is also functional.
The electric vehicle can carry up to 2 people. Entry is easy and is via large doors on the driver's and passenger's sides that open in opposite directions.
The two seats are offset, providing occupants with more comfort for both their elbows and legs.
The driver's seat is adjustable in terms of distance from the steering wheel. The passenger seat, however, is fixed but positioned further back to increase space.
There is also clever storage: A cavity under the passenger's feet opens up to provide space for a small suitcase.
In addition, suitcases and backpacks can be stored behind the driver's seat.
The Ami's body height and driving position are the same as the seats in other vehicles, providing good visibility.
Being literally a car, the small vehicle offers superior protection compared to two- or three-wheeled vehicles, as well as acoustic comfort.
The model also features heating, which is helpful on cold or rainy days.
Customization options available
The Ami is available in seven different versions. A strong point of this sustainable vehicle is the possibility of customization according to the taste and preference of each owner.
In total, there are 4 main shades available: My Ami Grey, My Ami Blue, My Ami Orange, and My Ami Khaki.
Bold and modern, Ami innovates and offers a DIY (Do It Yourself) way to create objects that adapt to each customer's taste through an accessory kit that can be installed by the customers themselves.
Connectivity
The Ami is still equipped with a dedicated area on the console to accommodate a smartphone that automatically transforms into the main screen of the dashboard, offering access to navigation and music.
By using the My Citroën app, drivers can access vehicle information at any time.
Through the software, it will be possible to access the charge status, remaining battery charging time, mileage, maintenance alerts, and schedule after-sales appointments.
The app also aims to make it easier to locate the nearest public charging stations, making life easier for vehicle owners or renters.
Buying, renting, and sharing
Another very interesting aspect of the Citroen Ami is that people can buy it, rent it, or simply share the model.
Cash purchase
The first option is to buy. The Ami is currently sold starting at €6,000, including taxes. A price that beats all electric competitors sold in Europe.
Maintaining the ultracompact car is simple and inexpensive. The manufacturer recommends maintenance every two years, and the vehicle is exempt from any technical inspections.
The maintenance plan was defined with the aim of ensuring sustainable and safe operation.
As soon as the customer buys the vehicle, they are required to download and register on the My Citroen app.
Through the app, the owner has access to maintenance information and a map of authorized and enabled service networks.
Long-term rental
Long-term rental is the ideal option for those who have a personal or professional need for a vehicle to get around.
Citroen thus offered the following lease plan: An initial payment of €2,644 and monthly payments of €19.99 per month.
With this down payment and monthly payments, the cost for the renter becomes cheaper than using public transportation. In this case, it's possible to rent the Ami for 24 or 36 months.
Sharing
And for those who need a vehicle for more occasional use, the Ami is available for sharing.
In this situation, it is possible to hire ride-sharing services by the minute, hour, or day. The My Citroen app charges subscribers an attractive rate of just €0.26 per minute.
This price is comparable to, or even lower than, most car or scooter sharing service offers.
Available only in Europe.
And if you were hoping to see the Ami driving around major Brazilian cities, we're sorry to disappoint you.
Unfortunately, the model is only available in Europe. The ultracompact car went on sale in France in mid-March and will gradually reach countries such as Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, and Germany.
