In 2019, the Chevrolet Tracker that was on Brazilian streets was imported from Mexico, and its sales figures were not positive. The SUV only ranked 11th among the best-selling vehicles in Brazil, with just over 16,000 registrations, falling far short of the segment leader during that period, the Jeep Renegade, which sold almost four times as many units.
However, General Motors is determined to turn the tables and is very optimistic about the arrival of the new generation Tracker. The 2020 model is manufactured in São Caetano do Sul – SP and uses the same platform as the Onix and Onix Plus, thus the automaker has set itself a more than ambitious goal: To achieve leadership in the sector.
Today, we'll be analyzing the Chevrolet Tracker, showing you what's new, and finally, we'll conclude whether the vehicle can reach the top of its segment. Don't miss it!
The history of the Chevrolet Tracker is marked by ups and downs.

Released in 2001
The Chevrolet Tracker debuted in Brazil in 2001, that is, 19 years ago. At the time, the model was produced in Argentina and was General Motors' version of the Suzuki Grand Vitara. Both models, in fact, were produced in the same factory, in the Argentinian city of Rosario.
At the time, GM owned 20% of Suzuki's shares, and the model featured a 2.0-liter engine produced in Japan by Mazda (quite a mix of brands, isn't it?) that generated 87 horsepower and worked with a five-speed manual transmission.
As mentioned, the Tracker was a SUV It was on the ground that it truly proved its worth. Its suspension angles, as well as its 4x4 traction, made the model a great option for farmers.
In 2002, the Mazda engine was replaced by a Peugeot-produced engine, also a turbodiesel, but with 108 horsepower. With the change, the Tracker gained in torque and top speeds.
Due to low sales volume, imports of the model were discontinued in 2004. But two years later, the automaker resumed importing the model from Argentina, and so, at the turn of 2006 to 2007, the Chevrolet Tracker returned to the Brazilian market, but this time, it arrived with a 2.0-liter, 128-horsepower gasoline engine to compete with the EcoSport 4WD and Mitsubishi TR4.
Even with 20 more horsepower, the model underwent modifications to its gear ratios, resulting in reduced torque, which caused it to lose off-road capabilities but improved its urban and highway performance. In 2009, the model was once again withdrawn from the Brazilian market.
