The giant Chevrolet Equinox
Launched in the US market in 2004, Chevrolet Equinox It had a relatively delayed debut in Brazil. The model only arrived here in September 2017, already being sold as a 2018 version. Its arrival also came with a special price, with the obvious intention of attracting potential buyers.
- Category: SUV;
- Average new price: R$ 170 thousand;
- Average price used: R$ 110 thousand;
- Recommended version: Chevrolet Equinox Premier 2.0 Turbo;
- Average city fuel consumption: 8.5 km/L;

In 2018, with sales starting in January, a total of 1,521 units were sold, placing it among the 20 best-selling SUVs of the year.
In 2019, sales increased considerably, with 4,360 units registered.
And finally in 2020, the model, like all others, suffered in the face of the new coronavirus pandemic and ended up registering 4,812 units in total. A good figure for a model considered upscale and with higher prices.

Details about the Chevrolet Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox's design is undoubtedly one of its strongest points today, although many point out that vehicle size is becoming a subjective matter.
Despite being a large vehicle, which naturally gives the impression of robustness, upon closer inspection one can quickly perceive a touch of sportiness, reinforced by a powerful engine.
Exterior
The front of the SUV follows the same pattern as other global GM models, with a prominent grille, slimmer LED headlights, and some chrome accents.
Another highlight at the front is its hood, which features a series of creases that aid in the model's aerodynamics.
When viewed from the side, the design appears simpler. Its doors are smooth, which conveys an air of sobriety, something that fits very well with the overall design.
The rearview mirrors and window frames are also chrome-plated, and the wheels are 19-inch aluminum rims, all matching.
At the rear, the Chevrolet Equinox features strong lines, and just like the hood, the spoiler is discreet, painted in the car's color.
There are two exhaust outlets, which gives the SUV a sporty look, and everything is completed with a black frame on the side of the glass, which creates a sense of continuity coming from the side windows.
Interior
It's not at all absurd to say that the interior of the Equinox is an attraction in itself.
There's no shortage of space inside this SUV. With a wheelbase of just over 2.72 meters, the model can comfortably accommodate up to five passengers. Some even say it could hold up to seven.
The feeling of spaciousness is enhanced by the presence of the panoramic sunroof and the way the dashboard was designed, separating the instrument panel from everything else.
The materials used in the model are of excellent quality, as is the fit and finish of the parts. With a mix of leather and hard plastic components, the Equinox's interior is sophisticated, versatile, and functional.
Those aboard the Equinox enjoy great comfort, as in addition to space, the vehicle boasts a quieter ride thanks to a system that uses opposing waves to cancel out external engine noise.
There are storage compartments scattered throughout, including a space large enough to hold an umbrella on the driver's side door.
Finally, luggage can be accommodated in a compartment that can vary between 468 and 1627 cubic meters. It offers comfort and space that's hard to fault.
Wide color palette
Finally, to conclude our discussion of the Chevrolet Equinox's details, it's important to highlight its wide range of colors, capable of appealing to even the most diverse preferences.
Today, the colors available to buyers are:
- Blue Eclipse;
- Red Glory;
- Summit White;
- Graphite Gray;
- Silver Switchblade;
- Black Global.
Security is a major highlight.
One very positive point when we talk about the Equinox is its safety, and this is the result of the work and investment that GM has been making for several years in all its vehicles, and it has been reaping positive results.
In terms of safety, the SUV has a number of features and systems that make a difference, both for the driver and occupants, as well as pedestrians and surrounding vehicles. Let's take a look at each of them now.
6 airbags
When we talk about safety, one of the main items that comes to mind is airbags, and in the Equinox there are 6 airbags in total.
In the event of a collision, there is protection Front, side, and curtain type. Important for minimizing various types of impacts.
Forward collision alert
Sensors identify vehicles ahead and, if a collision risk is detected, the driver is alerted with a combination of audible and visual signals on the windshield, increasing the likelihood that the brakes will be applied.
Pedestrian detection alert with braking assistance
In the event of an imminent collision with a pedestrian, the system will alert the driver and automatically apply the brakes to reduce the severity of the collision or even avoid it altogether.
Low-speed automatic emergency braking system
In low-speed situations (up to 80 km/h), if the system detects a risk of collision with the vehicle ahead, the brakes are automatically applied to reduce the severity of the impact or even avoid the potential collision.
Driver's seat with safety alert
Along with the other alerts, the driver's seat vibrates if an imminent accident is detected.
Lane keeping assist system
A front-facing camera can detect lane markings, and if the driver unintentionally leaves the lane, a warning signal is issued. The system automatically corrects the vehicle's trajectory.
Rearview camera
It is possible to monitor everything that happens behind the car through the 8” screen of the Chevrolet MyLink system located in the center console of the Equinox.
Rear cross-traffic alert
This technology makes it easier to reverse out of a parking space by warning of approaching cars or pedestrians that may appear from a perpendicular direction.
Blind spot alert
With sensors in the rear corners, the Chevrolet Equinox can alert the driver if there is a vehicle in the blind spot.
Alert for forgetting people or objects.
This is one of the most innovative safety systems that make up the Equinox.
When the rear doors are opened up to 10 minutes before the ignition is turned on, the vehicle memorizes the action and warns the driver upon exiting the vehicle.
At that moment, a beep sounds and simultaneously a message appears on the on-board computer display, reminding the user that there may be a person or object in the back seat.
Although it may seem crazy, it's not uncommon for parents to forget their children in the back seats. And regarding belongings, who hasn't ever forgotten their purse (or briefcase) in the car?
Stability and traction control
And to round out our technology section, the Equinox features stability and traction control that work together.
In this case, the brakes activate and anticipate a possible loss of tire contact with the ground, ensuring maximum grip and vehicle control.
Technology and connectivity
Today, the most robust vehicles, namely SUVs, feature a high level of technology and connectivity included in their systems. It's not at all absurd to say that they are veritable computers on wheels.
The story is no different with the Chevrolet Equinox; the model has technology and connectivity to spare.
Easy Park System
The first technological point we'll discuss is the Easy Park System, which helps Equinox drivers enter and exit parking spaces simply and efficiently. With it, the driver doesn't need to parallel park; the car does it automatically.
Intelligent Full LED Headlights
Here we have an item that actually combines technology and security.
The intelligent Full LED headlights automatically turn on as soon as the sensors detect the absence of natural light, ensuring that the driver has a better view of the road ahead.
Wireless Charger
The Equinox features a wireless charger, allowing you to recharge your smartphone battery without wires.
Charging is done using a charging base available in the Equinox's console. Simply turn on the car, place your phone on it, and you're ready to go: charging begins.
On-board computer
The Equinox's onboard computer is another positive point in terms of technology.
With it, you can access a range of data, such as instantaneous fuel consumption, average consumption, travel time, odometer reading, and tire pressure in real time.
Multimedia center with Chevrolet MyLink
To explore a wide variety of destinations, it's essential to be and remain constantly connected.
With Chevrolet MyLink, which features full integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the driver can chat via messages, choose routes, and even access their favorite playlists using only their voice.
All this on a new 8-inch high-precision touchscreen that can be accessed both directly and indirectly via the multifunction steering wheel.
Engine, performance and fuel consumption
When we say that GM thought of everything with regard to the Chevrolet Equinox, that's true.
Regarding the engine, fuel consumption, and performance, the SUV presents positive and pleasing points, as we will see now.
Motorization
The first thing we're going to show you is the engine.
Initially, Chevrolet chose to launch the Equinox in Brazil only with the powerful 2.0 ECOTEC Turbo SIDI gasoline engine.
With 16 valves, 4 cylinders in line and direct injection, the engine delivers an incredible 262 horsepower with a torque of 37 kgfm.
The transmission in this option is a nine-speed automatic and features the innovative Active Select system and the clutch-to-clutch function, where the engine engages a gear at the same time as it disengages the previous one.
However, the automaker reversed course and opted to also equip the SUV with the new 1.5 turbo engine.
The most modest option delivers 172 horsepower and has a maximum torque of 28 kgfm, which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and also runs only on gasoline.
Performance
Even weighing over 1600 kg, the Chevrolet Equinox shows good vigor in acceleration or when reaching higher speeds while in motion.
According to official data from the manufacturer, with the 2.0 engine the SUV is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds and has a top speed limited to 210 km/h.
The 1.5 turbo version is a bit more timid, not to say modest, but even so it showed interesting levels.
With the "less" powerful engine, the Equinox goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 9 seconds and has a top speed of 199 km/h.
Consumption
Few people expect an SUV to perform like a sports car, and when that happens, as is the case with the Equinox, the expectation is that fuel consumption will be directly affected.
However, that's not what we observed, but two important variables need to be taken into account in this aspect: the weight of the SUV and the fact that both engines only accept gasoline as fuel.
With the 2.0 engine, the Equinox's average fuel consumption is 8.9 km/L in the city and 10.5 km/L on the highway.
For those seeking a robust and comfortable model, but who don't want to compromise on fuel economy, the 1.5 engine is an option, offering average fuel consumption of 9.5 km/L in urban areas and 11.7 km/L on highways.
Are these good averages? Without a doubt. However, it's important to keep in mind that it falls short when compared to competitors that use diesel as fuel and end up costing less to run.
Chevrolet Equinox: Prices and versions
As important as having a deep understanding of a model is, it's also crucial to have access to its prices and versions. Currently, the SUV is sold in three versions (with different prices). They are:
- Equinox LT 1.5 Turbo 2020: R$ 142,790;
- Equinox Premier 1.5 Turbo 2020: R$ 170,290;
- Equinox Premier 2.0 Turbo 2020: R$ 179,190.
3-year warranty
With customer well-being and satisfaction in mind, GM now sells the Equinox with a 3-year factory warranty with unlimited mileage.
It's a literal testament to the SUV's reliability, proving it can handle a wide variety of situations, which gives customers even more peace of mind regarding the purchase and maintenance!
New things are coming in 2022.
Another important point to keep in mind is that there are new developments on the horizon for the Chevrolet Equinox.
Today the model is in its third generation, which underwent a restyling in 2017, exactly when it was launched here.
A restyled version of the model was shown to the world in January of this year, but it will only start being sold in China.
In addition to the revamped look, highlighted by the split headlights on the front, the SUV also gained a sportier version, which may be called the Equinox RS here.
The expectation is that this version will only arrive here at the end of this year, or perhaps only in 2022.
