12 rare Brazilian cars

Check out these 12 rare Brazilian car models that many people don't know about:

12. Ford Corcel Van II

Whenever someone comes across a Ford Corcel Van II, they end up confusing the model with the famous Belina, since the model is based on it.

The model came equipped with windows or steel plates in place of the rear side windows.

Another difference in this model was the presence of only front seats, leaving all the space in the back for transporting cargo.

Ford's idea at the time was to have a light and compact commercial vehicle to compete with the first generation of the Fiorino.

However, the model was not well received and only 504 units were manufactured between 1982 and 1984.

11. Ford Maverick 4-door

The Ford Maverick is a classic for V8 enthusiasts.

But this model, which is among the rarest national cars, is not the sports version but the sedan, which had a more luxurious design.

Being more luxurious, the four-door "Mavecão" had more interior space due to its longer wheelbase.

However, the model did not deliver good sales figures, and the explanation for this is simple.

Like many car manufacturers today, the Ford Galaxie also featured four doors and ample interior space.

That's why the 4-door Maverick never took off.

But that doesn't mean it's not a rare model.

10. Simca Jangada

While the Simca Chambord even had a song written about it, the automaker's station wagon didn't receive as much attention.

Simca Jangada

Experts say that the Jangada project didn't "catch on" because it was only launched in 1963.

That is, four years after the debut of the traditional model with a three-box body.

Because of this, the Simca Jangada is among the rarest Brazilian cars.

It's very difficult to come across one of these.

According to collectors, it's a true rare find.

9. Chevrolet Chevette 4-door

As is well known, the Chevette gave rise to a large family in Brazil.

From this model came the famous Marajó station wagon, the Chevy pickup truck, and its sedan variant.

Numbers of Chevrolet These figures demonstrate that the product line as a whole had over 1.5 million units produced in Brazil alone.

Even so, there is room for rarities.

In this case, the rarity is the four-door Chevette.

The model was launched in 1979 and the configuration was produced until 1987.

But sales weren't good.

At the time, Brazilian consumers preferred two-door models.

Unlike what happened in Brazil, the 4-door Chevette was exported to other South American countries and had good sales figures.

8. Volkswagen TL 4-door

Seeing a Volkswagen TL on the streets is rare, but seeing a four-door TL is even rarer.

They say it's easier to win the lottery than to see one of these in person.

This model is a must-have on the list of rare Brazilian cars.

Volkswagen's idea was to have a model that could adequately replace the Sedan 1600, nicknamed "Zé do Caixão" (Coffin Joe).

Like the Chevette, the four-door TL also didn't sell well because Brazilians didn't like four-door models.

Thus, the biggest buyers of this rarity were taxi drivers.

7. Volkswagen Brasilia 4 doors

In our list of the rarest domestically produced cars, we also have another example of a four-door Volkswagen with a rear-mounted air-cooled engine.

The 4-door Brasília is another car considered a rare find.

Of the 950,000 units produced in Brazil between 1973 and 1982, a minimal number of units had the additional doors.

The model was not successful in Brazil, but it achieved good sales figures in the countries to which it was exported, such as Nigeria, Chile, and Venezuela.

6. Willys CJ-6

That's right. You've certainly never seen a Willys that wasn't a Rural or a Pick-up, have you?

The Willys CJ-6, nicknamed Bernardão, is without a doubt one of the rarest Brazilian cars in existence.

Your nickname It's an allusion to its place of production, the city of São Bernardo do Campo – SP.

The model had a wheelbase 51 cm longer than its traditional version and could carry up to 6 occupants.

5. Willys Itamaraty Executive

And here we have another model from the Willys automaker that deserves to be on every list of rare Brazilian cars.

While the Itamaraty was the brand's luxury sedan, the Executivo managed to be even more sophisticated for its time. With its extended wheelbase, the model literally looked like a Brazilian limousine.

In addition to its spacious interior, which allowed for the installation of more seats and consequently the transport of a larger number of people, the model featured exclusive equipment such as air conditioning and an electric shaver.

The Willys Itamaraty Executivo had a total of only 27 units manufactured, making it an extremely rare vehicle.

4. Kombi double cab pickup truck

Although many people don't know it, the Kombi had several body options throughout its history in Brazil. The most common and well-known is the standard one, for passengers or cargo.

Besides the Standard version, other more unusual versions are the van and the double-cab pickup truck.

The double-cab pickup version had another unique feature: it had two doors on the right side and only one on the left, meaning that the first car with three doors was the VW Kombi pickup, not the Hyundai Veloster.

This rare model was produced between 1981 and 1985 and had engines... Gasoline and alcohol, as well as a novel diesel engine, but it presented many problems and was quickly retired.

3. Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible

The Karmann Ghia coupe is not a very common model in Brazil; after all, just over 23,000 units were produced between 1962 and 1971, making the convertible version even rarer.

Data from Volkswagen differs regarding the number of units produced, with estimates ranging between 176 and 177 units.

The Karmann Ghia convertible is so rare that it's easier to find a converted coupe model than a factory original. Collectors claim that a model in good condition can fetch over £100,000.

2. Volkswagen Golf 2-door

This model was intentionally designed by the manufacturer to be a rare vehicle.

Volkswagen sold the fourth-generation Golf only with four doors, including the famous GTI sports version with a 1.8 turbo engine producing 180 horsepower, but the two-door model was produced in Brazilian factories exclusively for export.

Then, in 2003, the company decided to manufacture a special series, limited to 99 units and with a surprise under the hood: a 2.8-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 200 horsepower and a body designed for foreign countries.

Truly, one of the rare domestically produced cars that couldn't be left off this list.

1. Fiat Tempra two-door

The Fiat Tempra 2-door is literally something Brazilian, as it was developed by the team of Fiat engineering in the city of Betim – MG for the local automotive market.

However, in the 1990s, Brazilian tastes began to change and the demand for four-door models started to grow, so the two-door version of the Tempra had a short life, being produced only between 1992 and 1994.

Although its career was short, this body style was offered for several versions of the Tempra, the most famous of which was the Turbo, with a supercharged 165-horsepower engine, which gave the model the title of the fastest car in Brazil at the time.
