Gasoline prices in Brazil are among the 100 most expensive in the world.

Although prices are rising in Brazil, the price per liter of gasoline here is "only" the 90th highest in the world.

Today the average cost of fuel at Brazilian gas stations is R$ 6.32.

This value is approximately R$ 0.40 cheaper than the price practiced in the international market, which is R$ 6.75.

The information comes from GPP – Global Petrol Prices, a service responsible for monitoring energy and fuel prices weekly in 168 countries, based on official indicators.

Although the cost of oil on the international market is the same for all countries, the prices charged in each country are subject to different types of influence.

The cheapest prices found by Global Petrol Prices are in two countries that are part of OPEC – the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

They are: Venezuela, where gasoline costs R$ 0.22 per liter, and Iran, where the price per liter is R$ 0.33.

However, these are values that deviate from the reality of the global average.

On the other hand, the most expensive place to fill up your tank is in Hong Kong, where a liter of gasoline costs an average of R$ 14.45.

Although this is currently the highest price, this price level is not an isolated case.

After all, in 25 countries the price of gasoline today exceeds the R$ 10 per liter range.

19 of these countries are in Europe, and we're going even further. In the Netherlands and Norway, the values exceed R$ 12.00 per liter.

Top 5 most expensive and cheapest gasolines in the world

To illustrate the current reality for Brazilians compared to the rest of the world, we've compiled a list of the top five most expensive and cheapest fuels globally.

Top 5 most expensive gasolines in the world

The five countries where gasoline is most expensive in the world are:

  • Hong Kong: R$ 14.54;
  • Netherlands: R$ 12.40;
  • Norway: R$ 12,242;
  • Central African Republic: R$ 11.69;
  • Denmark: R$ 11.58.

If Brazil were on the list, it would occupy the 90th position.

Now, presenting a completely opposite list, we'll show you the five countries where gasoline is cheapest in the world.

  • Venezuela: R$ 0.22
  • Iran: R$ 0.33;
  • Syria R$ 1.27;
  • Angola R$ 1.47;
  • Algeria R$ 1.84.

In a list of countries with the cheapest gasoline, Brazil would be in 78th position.

Brazilians are rightly complaining about the price of fuel.

However, it is important to emphasize that with the fluctuating dollar and the lack of production capacity, there is a high chance that we will see prices rise even further at the fuel pumps.

Therefore, knowing which car to choose with fuel economy in mind is essential for anyone who wants to save money these days.

So, after showing you the reality of gasoline prices around the world, we're now going to show you the 10 most fuel-inefficient cars in Brazil.

So, let's go!

We have finally arrived, the moment of truth.

After much research, our experts have selected the 10 most fuel-inefficient cars in Brazil.

Let's check out this incredible and important list.

10. Hyundai Creta Action

The Creta Action is equipped with a 1.6 16V flex-fuel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

With gasoline, the model achieves 9.8 km/l in the city and 11.7 km/l on the highway.

When fueled with ethanol, the average fuel consumption in the city is 6.8 km/L and in the highway it is 8.1 km/L.

Without a doubt, it's a gas guzzler, but with acceptable fuel consumption rates.

9. Caoa Chery Tiggo 5x

Another vehicle to feature on the list of the most fuel-guzzling cars, the Tiggo 5X has a 1.5 16V turbo flex engine and a six-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.

Therefore, when fueled with gasoline, it achieves 9.8 km/l in the city and 11.7 km/l on the highway.

When the tank is filled with ethanol, fuel consumption figures rise to 6.7 km/l in the city and 9.0 km/l on the highway.

The numbers are relatively bad, but relatively acceptable.

8. Caoa Chery Tiggo 7

In eighth place we have another model from Caoa Chery.

The Tiggo 7 features a 1.6 16V turbo flex engine with a six-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.

Therefore, when fueled with gasoline, it gets 9.7 km/L in the city and 10.9 km/L on the highway.

With ethanol, the average fuel consumption is 6.6 km/L in the city and 7.6 km/L on the highway.

The numbers are still acceptable for gasoline, but already alarming for ethanol.

7. Jeep Renegade 1.8

In seventh place among the 10 most fuel-guzzling cars in Brazil is the famous Renegade.

The model equipped with the 1.8 16V flex engine also features a six-speed automatic transmission.

This configuration allows the model to achieve an average fuel consumption of 9.5 km/l in the city and 11 km/l on the highway using gasoline.

With ethanol, the averages plummet to 6.7 km/l in urban use and 8.1 km/l on highways.

It could be better, but it isn't.

6. Fiat Argo Trekking

Among SUVs, we have a hatchback as an unwelcome surprise on our list of the most fuel-inefficient cars in Brazil in 2021.

The Argo equipped with a 1.8 flex 16V engine features a six-speed automatic transmission.

On gasoline, it gets 9.4 km/l in the city and 11.9 km/l on highways.

With ethanol, the average drops to 6.6 km/l for city driving and 8.6 km/l on the highway.

Here's proof that a hatchback isn't particularly economical.

5. Fiat Doblò

The Doblò is a classic when we talk about everything bad.

Ultimately, the model is ugly and, to make matters worse, it's also among the 10 most fuel-inefficient cars in Brazil.

Equipped with a 1.8 16V Flex engine and a five-speed manual transmission, the model achieves 9.2 km/l in the city and 10.3 km/l on the highway using gasoline.

However, when fueled with ethanol, the averages decrease to 6.4 km/l in the city and 7.2 km/l on the highway.

With so many cars being discontinued, whether the Doblò will remain in production is a real question mark.

4. BMW X4 M40i

In fourth place, we have the famous and highly sought-after BMW X4 M40i.

Equipped with a 3.0 24V engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, the SUV runs exclusively on gasoline.

Thus, its average fuel consumption figures are: 8.4 km/l in the city and 9.9 km/l on the highway.

Let's face it, those are not very encouraging numbers.

3. BMW X3 M40i

At the bottom of the podium for the most fuel-guzzling cars in Brazil, we have the BMW X3 M40i.

The model is equipped with a 3.0 24V engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Like its predecessor, the X3 runs exclusively on gasoline.

Thus, the model achieves 8.3 km/l in the city and 9.7 km/l on highways.

2. Toyota SW4

In second place we have the robust SUV of Japanese origin.

Under the hood, there's a 2.7-liter 16V flex-fuel engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Thus, on gasoline, the monster gets 7.1 km/l in the city and 8.5 km/l on the highway.

However, with ethanol, the numbers plummet: the averages are 4.9 km/l in the city and 5.9 km/l on the highway.

1. Land Rover Discovery Sport

And in first place among the most fuel-guzzling vehicles in Brazil, we have the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Equipped with a 2.0 16V flex-fuel engine and a nine-speed transmission, it had everything it needed to be economical.

However, its weight makes it a rather fuel-inefficient vehicle.

With gasoline, the model gets 6.8 km/l in the city and 8.2 km/l on the highway.

With ethanol, the average fuel consumption drops to 4.6 km/l in the city and 5.6 km/l on the highway.

But let's face it, whoever buys one of these shouldn't worry about the price of gasoline.
