In its new generation, the Audi A4 is one of the premium model options available to Brazilian consumers and has strong competitors in terms of quality and price.
The model, which was launched globally in 2015, only has four versions but has already suffered from aging due to the leaps made by rivals as well as the rest of the manufacturer's own lineup.
After being left behind, the model received some modifications and gained a new lease on life, giving it more momentum to continue fighting for its place in the market.
If you're one of those sedan enthusiasts, you can't miss today's article. It was written especially for you.
Audi A4: The history of the model
In 1994, Audi decided to retire the classic Audi 80 in favor of a new model that featured more sophisticated lines while retaining the longitudinal engine and transmission. That's when the A4 was born.
The model didn't come alone; the Avant station wagon was also in its company.
At the time, the model was built on the famous PL45 platform, thus entering directly into competition with its competitors. competitors of the same nationality: BMW and Mercedes.
In 2002, the model reached its second generation, gaining a more sophisticated style and a wide range of engines: a 2.0 6V, a 3.0 30V, the classic 1.8 20V, and the traditional V6 gasoline or diesel engines.
One technology that marked the second generation was the Multitronic CVT transmission, which truly made its mark and gained a lot of fame.
The third generation was introduced in 2004 with simpler and less attractive lines and lasted until 2008. This generation was marked by the emergence of the RS4, which had a 4.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower.
In 2008, the fourth generation arrived with more elegant lines and inherited the 2.0 TSFI engines and introduced the S tronic dual-clutch transmission. It was also the first version to gain an extended version: the A4L, which was exclusive to the Chinese market.
In 2015, the model underwent another redesign, reaching its fifth generation. The changes were merely minor. The 2020 model follows the lines launched in 2015 with only minor alterations.
According to the manufacturer itself, major changes are expected next year.

What's new in the Audi A4?
As we mentioned, the 2020 A4 lineup didn't have any major changes.
The model has been redesigned, bringing its look a bit closer to what can be seen in the new A1. The interior has gained a new 10.1-inch multimedia center with a touchscreen system.
The big news is the electric-based models. In Europe, the model already has six different turbocharged engine options with power ranging from 150 to 347 horsepower. Of these, three have... hybrid system 12V light
Versions and prices
The model is available in Brazil in only two trim levels. The Avant (station wagon) version, however, is only available in one configuration.
The sedan versions and prices are as follows:
- Audi A4 Prestige 40 TFSI S Tronic 2020: R$ 175,990;
- Audi A4 Prestige Plus 40 TFSI S Tronic 2020: R$ 205,990;
- Audi A4 Avant Prestige Plus 40 TFSI S Tronic 2020: R$ 219,990.
As you can see, all versions available here in Brazil have the same engine. As we will show below:
Engine and transmission are special highlights.
Under the hood of all versions, the model features a powerful 2.0 TFSI engine equipped with an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, a thermal management system with a rotary valve, an electric turbocharger relief valve, and dual fuel injection.
The engine is capable of delivering a "mere" 190 horsepower and runs solely on gasoline.
Next to the engine we have a automatic transmission The seven-speed S Tronic transmission with dual clutch features a "freewheeling" function that provides selective torque control for each wheel, supplementing the work of the front-wheel drive.
The A4 also features a permanent all-wheel drive system that distributes power to the wheels as needed. According to Audi itself, this system results in more grip, control, stability and consequently greater safety.
According to the brand, the 2.0 TFSI engine features an innovative combustion method where the engine's comparatively larger displacement is not a negative point but rather a prerequisite.
This new method, with a shorter compression phase and extended expansion, increases the compression ratio and was designed for partial loads where the intake valves close earlier than usual. This results in reduced acceleration losses during air intake.
With a shorter compression phase, the compression ratio is increased. This means that during this phase, the A4 engine only needs to compress a similar amount of gasoline used in smaller displacement engines.
Thus, during the expansion phase, when the model fully utilizes its two liters of displacement, the engine benefits from the high compression. This results in a much more efficient combustion process due to the high pressure achieved.
Consumption
In the city, the model has the following average fuel consumption:
- Audi A4 2.0 TFSI 2020: 11.0 km/liter when fueled with gasoline.
- Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI 2020: 10.5 km/l when fueled with gasoline
On the road, the average fuel consumption is:
- Audi A4 2.0 TFSI 2020: 14.3 km/liter on gasoline
- Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI 2020: 13.5 km/l on gasoline
Conclusion
Although it's a model geared more towards an older audience, the A4 is still a car that sparks a lot of desire even among younger people. This is due to the quality of the brand and all the technology incorporated into the manufacturer's models.
However, due to the rise in the dollar, not only the A4 but also other Audi models and those of competitors should return to being a luxury itemThis is simply because one real is currently worth about 5.50 dollars.
But that doesn't exclude admiration and the desire to have one in the garage. Doesn't it?
