Starting our list, the Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover, produced by Jeep, a brand of FCA, launched in 2014. It is manufactured in Melfi (Italy) and also in Goiana, with production having started in March 2015.

Mechanically, it features a 1.8 Flex E.torQ engine with up to 139 horsepower and 19.3 kgfm of torque, along with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds and has a top speed of 182 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 7.9 km/l and 11.6 km/l, respectively with ethanol and gasoline. Its trunk has a capacity of 260 liters and it also includes a driver's knee airbag, GPS navigation, Start&Stop system, dual-zone climate control, speed limiter, alloy wheels, and an electronic parking brake.

17 – Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta is a compact SUV launched at the Beijing International Auto Show in 2014. In Brazil, it was presented at the 2016 São Paulo Auto Show.

It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 188 km/h. Fuel consumption is 7.55 km/l on ethanol and 10.7 km/l on gasoline. The crossover has a 431-liter trunk. It comes with cruise control, six airbags, and traction and stability control.

Furthermore, the Creta currently offers two engine options: the 1.6 and the top-of-the-line Creta 2.0 Prestige. In competition with its rivals, the Prestige includes some features that may influence the purchase decision, such as a driver's seat with a cooling system and digital TV integrated into the multimedia system.

16 – Honda WR-V

Well, the WR-V is a compact crossover produced by Honda. It was presented at the 2016 São Paulo International Motor Show. This vehicle was developed by the Research and Development team of Honda Automóveis do Brasil, to position itself as the brand's entry-level SUV, sitting below the HR-V.

The crossover is derived from the Honda Fit and has a 1.5 i-VTEC FlexOne engine with up to 116 horsepower and 15.3 kgfm of torque. It comes standard with a CVT transmission, but the model lacks traction and stability control, as well as hill start assist.

15 – Renault Captur

The next car on our list of the best SUVs on the Brazilian market is the Captur, a compact crossover produced by Renault. It was first presented in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show and launched in Europe in 2013.

The Captur is a modern-looking reinterpretation of the Duster. Launched in 2017, it shares its platform and mechanical components with the Renault SUV. This means that some of its flaws are also common. This is the case with its thirst for fuel – especially in the 2.0 version.

Furthermore, its 1.6 SCe engine delivers up to 120 horsepower and 16.2 kgfm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. With this setup, the Captur accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 169 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 7.7 km/l on ethanol and 11.1 km/l on gasoline. The trunk capacity is 437 liters.

14 – Honda HR-V

The HR-V is a compact sporty SUV from Honda, initially made exclusively for the Japanese and European markets. It was launched in 1999, and in 2005 Honda decided to stop production.

The former category leader, the HR-V, changed very little last year to continue captivating the public. However, the biggest news has just arrived in stores. It's the new version with a 1.5 turbo engine, which promises, with apologies for the pun, to "turbocharge" Honda's sales. The problem is that it arrives costing the same as a mid-size SUV, R$ 140 thousand.

Thus, equipped with a 1.8 i-VTEC FlexOne engine, the crossover has up to 140 horsepower and 17.4 kgfm of torque, respectively with gasoline and ethanol, as it is the only one that is more powerful with the petroleum derivative. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds and has a top speed of 175 km/h.

13 – Chevrolet Tracker

The Chevrolet Tracker is a sport utility vehicle manufactured by General Motors, produced in Argentina and imported to Brazil.

So, the Tracker was chosen by some specialized magazines as the best buy of 2018, and it still ranks among the best SUVs. The model is ideal for exploring the city with family and friends, as it combines all the expected performance and power with an urban and modern design.

12 – Renault Duster

The Dacia Duster, or Renault Duster, is the first crossover manufactured by Dacia, which was officially unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The Duster Dynamique 1.6 CVT is the SUV option that includes cruise control, traction control, stability control, and multimedia system, but it does not come with side or curtain airbags. It has GPS, rearview camera, alloy wheels, fog lights, audio controls on the steering wheel, Eco mode, and speed limiter.

11 – Jeep Compass

Thus, it was one of the first Chrysler Group car models to offer versions with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) manufactured by Jatco.

An excellent vehicle featuring a 2.0 Tigershark Flex engine with up to 166 horsepower and 20.5 kgfm of torque, plus a six-speed automatic transmission, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds with a top speed of 192 km/h. Its fuel consumption is 6.8 km/l with ethanol and 9.8 km/l on the highway.

10 – Nissan Kicks

Another option on our list of the best SUVs on the Brazilian market is the Kicks, a compact crossover produced by Nissan. It was launched in Brazil in 2016 with the goal of being the official car of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, an event sponsored by Nissan.

Thus, with a 432-liter trunk, the Kicks has a 1.6 16V engine with 114 horsepower and 15.5 kgfm of torque, both on gasoline and ethanol, equipped with a CVT Xtronic transmission. The crossover goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.4 seconds and has a top speed of 175 km/h. The average fuel consumption is 8.55 km/l on ethanol and 12.55 km/l on gasoline.

9 – Ford EcoSport

The EcoSport is a subcompact crossover manufactured by Ford. This Ford vehicle meets the cost-benefit requirements in the FreeStyle Plus version, which costs R$ 95,435. With a 1.5 Ti-VCT three-cylinder engine, the compact SUV delivers up to 137 horsepower and 16.2 kgfm of torque.

In addition, the Ecosport has a Rain Sensor, which activates and regulates the speed of the windshield wipers as soon as it starts to rain. This version of the model comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, cruise control, and SYNC 3 multimedia system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Therefore, the Ford EcoSport is one of the SUV models with the best cost-benefit ratio. With ample interior space, it offers excellent performance thanks to its automatic 4WD flex-fuel drive.

8 – Lifan X60

The X60 is an SUV from Lifan. This model has an excellent and safe lighting system, with LEDs and a twilight sensor that automatically activates the lights as soon as artificial intelligence detects a need.

The Lifan X60 is one of the SUVs with the most interior space. It's perfect for taking your whole family for a drive. Furthermore, the X60 is one of the models that offers excellent value for money.

On the other hand, among the models mentioned here, it is the smallest, in addition to having the second most expensive insurance policy and the third most expensive maintenance package.

The restyled 2018 Cactus received a major technological upgrade, including emergency brake assist, lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, and automated parking.
