All versions of the 2020 Volkswagen T-Cross are equipped with front, side, and curtain airbags. As mentioned, the model will have an optional electronic differential lock.

Other interesting features include: tire pressure monitoring, automatic post-collision braking system, disc brakes on all four wheels, and the well-established driver fatigue detection system.

Electronic stability control is another noteworthy safety feature, capable of identifying driving problems in their early stages by comparing the driver's actions with the vehicle's reactions and, if necessary, reducing engine torque and braking one or more wheels to restore stability, as needed.

The hill start assist keeps the car braked for up to two seconds after the driver releases the brake pedal on inclines above 5%. The brakes are released progressively while the accelerator pedal is pressed.

There is also the automatic emergency braking system, capable of identifying an emergency braking situation through the speed of activation and/or the pressure applied to the brake pedal. The system then actively increases the brake pressure, which is modulated in conjunction with the ABS system.

But the big news regarding the safety of the 2020 Volkswagen T-Cross is the electronic differential lock, which activates the brake on the wheel with less traction on trails or in low-grip situations, promoting a torque transfer to the wheel with more traction. This allows the driver to more efficiently get out of a given risky situation.

This system increases braking agility and reduces the need for steering wheel movement. This occurs due to selective brake interventions on the inner wheels during turns on the front and rear axles, which transfers available engine torque to the outer wheels, resulting in greater stability and, consequently, improved handling.

Finally, another important point regarding safety is tire pressure monitoring. The 2020 T-Cross system uses sensors that monitor vibration patterns along with tire rotation frequency, detecting if there has been a loss of pressure in one or more tires and alerting the driver via a warning on the dashboard.
