Production of the Volkswagen ID.4 has already begun at the factory in Zwickau, Germany.

Although the model is being mass-produced in China, the automaker's focus is on distributing the SUV globally, and that includes Brazil!

Due to new European regulations concerning combustion engine vehicles, Volkswagen wants to accelerate the electrification process of its models with the aim of reaching more than 1.5 million electric vehicles manufactured by 2025. 

To achieve this, more than 33 billion euros will be invested by 2024 to ensure the brand has a significant volume of... electric models in the four corners of the world. 

Currently in Brazil, the automaker only offers one model that uses electricity as its power source: the seventh-generation Golf GTE.

According to internal sources from the brand itself, the ID.4 should be the first electric 100% model to hit the market here.

The ID.4's design, revealed some time ago, was no longer a secret, unlike its features. 

Being an SUV, interior space is often discussed, and in this respect, the model has very similar space to its combustion engine sibling: the Tiguan, although with slightly smaller dimensions.

The model features a functional and modern-looking cabin thanks to its wheelbase. This provides comfort for rear seat occupants.

 The clean lines of the dashboard stand out. Other eye-catching features include the 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the Discover Pro infotainment system with a 10-inch screen. 

Volkswagen has already stated that it will offer the driver assistance system and a heated leather multifunction steering wheel as optional extras. 

The Volkswagen ID.4 is built on the MEB modular platform developed by the automaker itself for its electric vehicles. 

In its base version, the electric SUV will feature 204 horsepower and 31.5 kgfm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels. 

According to the manufacturer, the ID.4's design was conceived to ensure better aerodynamics and delivers a drag coefficient of 0.28, which reduces air resistance and provides better energy efficiency. This is very important in an electric vehicle.

The SUV is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds, a rather impressive figure for a large and heavy model powered purely by electricity. The top speed is 160 km/h. 

The battery is capable of storing up to 77 kWh, giving the vehicle a range of up to 520 km.

Charging time at a fast charging station is approximately 30 minutes, allowing the vehicle to travel a distance of about 300 kilometers.

Volkswagen's US CEO, Scott Keogh, brought together different vehicles from the brand to talk about the ID.4.

According to him, the model is capable of delivering the feel of a Golf GTI, but has the design of a Tiguan with the purpose of a Beetle. 

The vehicle boasts a comprehensive list of standard equipment, including a range of safety and driver assistance features. 

The electric SUV comes standard with six airbags and a safety package that includes blind spot monitoring, forward and rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, high beam assist, and Park Assist. 

Many people can't get a sense of the ID.4's size from photos alone. So here are the dimensions of the electric SUV. 

The model is 4.62m long, 1.60m high, 1.89m wide, and has a wheelbase of 2.77m. The trunk, in turn, is also quite spacious and has a capacity of an incredible 543 liters. 

With great autonomy, comfort and a large trunk, the ID.4 aims to meet the needs of large families who enjoy traveling and at the same time seek to lead a more sustainable life without harming the environment. 

As mentioned earlier, the model has rear-wheel drive, and what stands out is that, due to its power distribution, the vehicle offers surprising grip and instantly positive performance. 

Due to its rapid power distribution, the ID.4 gains speed quickly and linearly, moving in an "incredible" way.

Another positive aspect of the model is its turning radius. The electric SUV has a turning radius of 10.2 meters, which gives it excellent maneuverability. 

The multi-link suspension is another highlight, capable of providing an ideal and enjoyable ride both on asphalt and off-road. dirt roads even with the vehicle equipped with low-profile tires. 

The price of the electric SUV has not yet been released by Volkswagen. However, based on other similar models already on sale, it is estimated that the ID.4 will be priced in the range of €35,000. 

Converting to Brazilian Real plus import taxes, it is estimated that the model will be sold here in a price range between R$ 210 thousand and R$ 230 thousand.

However, according to market and finance experts, there is current pessimism in the automotive electric vehicle market due to the pandemic.

Articles suggest that initially, due to circulation restrictions, the sale of electric vehicles may decrease by up to 40%. 

But we know that this is something temporary, since European countries will restrict the production of combustion engine vehicles as early as 2025 and their circulation starting in 2020. 

Therefore, as soon as a Covid-19 vaccine is released, sales of electric vehicles should start to rise again.
