What is an SUV?
But what does the acronym SUV mean?
Well, the acronym SUV comes from the English term Sport Utility Vehicle, which means Sport Utility Vehicle.
For classification purposes, Inmetro establishes some technical characteristics that differentiate these models and give them off-road capability.
But for the average consumer, the impression remains that these models are large and have ample interior space for passengers and luggage.
The SUV is a combination of a station wagon body with a pickup truck chassis.
And, over time, it has been optimized into the current models to provide more comfort and drivability to drivers and vehicle occupants.
Top 10 most economical SUV models in Brazil: choose from these models.

So, we researched the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) from Inmetro to find out which are the 10 most fuel-efficient SUVs in Brazil. Check them out here!
It's important to remember that, for comparison purposes, the average fuel consumption of vehicles in urban commuting was used, as this is the most significant data in terms of consumption.
10. Caoa Chery Tiggo 3x
We begin our list with this Caoa model, which boasts an average fuel consumption of 11.2 km/l. This makes this SUV the 10th most fuel-efficient option here in Brazil!
9. JAC T50 Plus
Next, we have this JAC model that consumes an average of 11.3 km/l.
This model features a futuristic design that was completely redesigned in 2020. It is a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine.
8. Nissan Kicks
Continuing our list, we have this Nissan model with the same average fuel consumption of 11.3 km/l as the JAC T50 Plus, but it has a slight advantage in highway fuel consumption, which served as the tiebreaker.
This model has also been completely redesigned, but it still has a familiar engine.
7. Honda HR-V
This Honda model has an average fuel consumption of 11.4 km/l.
Despite being listed among the most fuel-efficient SUVs in Brazil, this model will no longer be sold in its current version starting in 2022.
6. Suzuki Vitara
Well, now we have this Suzuki model that's been somewhat forgotten by consumers, and which has a good fuel consumption average of 11.5 km/l.
5. Suzuki S-Cross
Now with the S-Cross, Suzuki achieves a "double win" and places another SUV on the list of the 10 most fuel-efficient models in Brazil.
With the same average fuel consumption of 11.5 km/l, it ties with the Vitara, but proves to be more economical on the highway, a criterion that served as the tiebreaker.
4. Hyundai Creta
In 4th place is this Hyundai model, which has an average fuel consumption of 11.6 km/l.
Previously not very efficient in the 1.6 16V version, this 1.0 Turbo version proves to be much more efficient, which puts it in this position.
3. Honda WR-V
With this model, Honda manages to add another SUV to the list of the 10 most fuel-efficient SUVs in Brazil.
The WR-V has an average fuel consumption of 11.7 km/l.
2. JAC T40 Plus
JAC also places another model on the list.
This time, with the T-40 Plus, we're gradually getting used to Chinese cars.
This model has an average fuel consumption of 11.9 km/l.
1. Chevrolet Tracker
Finally, the grand champion of this list of the 10 most fuel-efficient SUVs in Brazil.
And the award goes to the Chevrolet Tracker, which boasts an incredible average fuel consumption of 13 km/l.
Thus, as we can see in this list, the average fuel consumption of the models does not vary significantly, with the exception of the Chevrolet Tracker, which has a slight advantage over the others.
So, when it comes time to make your choice, other factors that differentiate one model from another will matter, such as design, comfort, and price.
And in that case, you'll find a huge number of options.
So, make your choice!
It's worth mentioning the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid model which, as the name suggests, is a hybrid model powered by both fuel and electricity.
It has a 1.8 flex-fuel engine combined with a 72 hp electric motor and has an average fuel consumption of 11.5 km/l.
It is one of the best-selling SUVs in Brazil.
Is it worth buying SUVs with expensive fuel?

So, this question is very important and valid when you are choosing which car you want to buy.
Firstly, because SUVs have a much lower average fuel consumption than hatchback and sedan models, which are lighter and more economical.
These models are also sold for an average price ranging from R$ 95,000 to R$ 110,000. This is somewhat more expensive than simpler car models.
However, we know how passionate Brazilians are about cars. Therefore, nothing compares to the pleasure of driving an SUV in the city or on the highway.
These models initially targeted an "adventurous" audience and offered little comfort. Over time, they were redesigned, evolving into the current models which feature bold designs, comfort, and excellent handling with more powerful engines.
So the question remains: are all the advantages presented worth it, even if it means paying more at the pump?
Sales volume for these models has been increasing year on year. Therefore, it seems that having one of these cars in the garage hasn't deterred consumers from buying one.
We at Senhor Carros, in particular, think it's worth it. What about you?
So, all you have to do is choose from the 10 most fuel-efficient SUVs in Brazil.
