Prós e contras do Chevrolet Equinox

Pros and cons of the Chevrolet Equinox

Discover now the main advantages and disadvantages of owning an Equinox!

Pros: Design and beauty

Most of the time when we review a vehicle here, we always say that before being good, the model needs to be beautiful. After all, an ugly vehicle doesn't attract attention and consequently doesn't sell.

In the case of the Equinox, the opposite is happening.

Design
Equinox is exuberant.

In terms of design, the SUV is beautiful, and since its arrival in Brazil, sales figures have only increased. Therefore, we can say that the first positive point of the model is its design, full of beauty and harmony.

When an Equinox drives by, everyone turns their head to watch.

Pro: Packed with equipment

Continuing our list of pros and cons of the Chevrolet Equinox, one of the model's main positive points is its equipment list.

The Equinox is more than complete. It features a variety of items not found in competing products, such as:

Panoramic sunroof, lane keeping assist, dual-zone climate control, automatic parking system, full LED headlights, power tailgate, remote start, BOSE sound system, wireless charger, 8” MyLink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and much more.

For comparison purposes only, the Jeep Compass Limited, which was a leader in its segment and was eventually overtaken by the T-Cross last year, does not have all of these items on its list and costs more than the Equinox.

Pros: Interior space and comfort

If there's one thing that deserves praise in the Chevrolet Equinox, it's its interior space. Something that automatically provides a lot of comfort.

The SUV measures 4.65 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.73 meters.

Interior
Equinox is comfortable and spacious.

In this way, it stands out for its interior space, especially in the rear seats, which feature a flat floor, dedicated air vents, and USB ports.

Like any good car born on American soil, the SUV treats passenger accommodation with great comfort.

To complete the package of space and comfort, the trunk has a capacity of 468 liters, plus extra space under the floor before reaching the spare tire. Add to that the convenience of the electric tailgate, and you have a perfect car for large families.

In addition to physical comfort in terms of space, it's important to mention the acoustic comfort aspect, since the Equinox has a system that inhibits sunlight from entering the cabin, creating a harmonious noise level.

Pros: Balance and safety

Continuing our list of pros and cons of the Chevrolet Equinox, we have balance and safety as points worthy of praise.

In both the 2.0 and 1.5 versions, the SUV presents a well-proportioned family profile, with a soft suspension and light steering.

The model exhibits linear handling, particularly during acceleration and at higher speeds, without any exaggeration.

And in addition to that, we can (and should) add all the security and technology features present in the model.

It's not absurd at all to say that the Equinox has a safety system for every situation.

Among the main systems we can mention are the forward collision warning, the pedestrian detection warning, autonomous braking at low speeds, the lane keeping assist system, blind spot sensors and of course: stability and traction control.

Pros: Finish

The finish is another point that deserves highlighting.

The materials used on the exterior and especially the interior of the cabin are of excellent quality, as is the fit and finish of the parts.

Acabamento
The finish is pleasing.

The Chevrolet Equinox showcases an interesting mix of leather and hard plastic parts that combine versatility and functionality in a rather sophisticated way.

Pros: Performance with a 2.0 engine

Generally, those who choose to buy an SUV know that although the model is robust and powerful in terms of space, interior volume, and size, the performance isn't all that great; after all, we're talking about a car weighing over 1,600 kg.

But those who choose the Equinox with the 2.0 engine are in for a pleasant surprise!

Equipped with a special nine-speed transmission, the SUV reaches 100 km/h in just over seven seconds and achieves an incredible top speed of 210 km/h.

All this with good performance and a linear, clean ride. Those who drive the Equinox 2.0 say it has power at all times and that the model is always responsive, without any surprises.

Pros: Values

And last but not least, in our section on the positive aspects of the Equinox, we have its value, which needs to be highlighted.

While its competitors can easily exceed the R$ 200,000 mark in their most expensive versions, the top-of-the-line Equinox has prices estimated in the R$ 170,000 range.

This is a financial option that's hard to fault; after all, it means getting much more while paying much less.

Cons: Maneuverability

Here we have the first negative item on our list of pros and cons of Chevrolet Equinox: its maneuverability.

Something important to mention is that SUVs are far from being exemplary in terms of maneuverability, but with the Equinox, maneuvering is a bit more difficult.

Although the steering is electric and therefore much lighter, the SUV's steering angle is low: only 12.2 meters, something very close to the 11.3 meters of the Compass, which is also known for being difficult to maneuver.

In short, more than one maneuver is needed, even in wider parking spaces or spiral entrances and exits of shopping malls. In these moments, the Equinox seems larger than it actually is.

Cons: 1.5 engine performance

And lastly, we have the performance of the 1.5 engine as a negative point; however, it's necessary to explain why we consider this a negative aspect.

Because it doesn't have as much power as the 2.0 version, the 1.5 version of the SUV is more balanced and performs well in most situations; however, it's easy to see that the overall package isn't as efficient as expected.

For example, without the start-stop system, the urban fuel consumption of the 1.5 is very close to that of the 2.0. However, in highway driving, the consumption is much better.

Motorização
The 1.5 engine leaves a little to be desired.

Within the city, the performance is pleasing, but when the 1,600 kg vehicle with the 1.5 engine is put on the highway, it becomes easy to notice that something is missing.

The 6-speed gearbox has more sensitive and slower gear changes, and downshifts and accelerations are slightly slower, which can even be dangerous in some situations, such as on mountain roads.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that the Chevrolet Equinox has far more positive points than negative ones.

In general, SUVs appeal to those who need space, value comfort, don't compromise on style and safety, and if you're looking for all of that combined with performance, simply opt for the 2.0 engine instead of the 1.5.

But for those seeking all the aforementioned qualities without high speeds, the 1.5 engine proved to be more than adequate.

And as we've said a few times here, we'll repeat it: There's no model that's 100% in terms of public acceptance, and the Chevrolet Equinox is another one of those cases.
