The 10 worst cars produced in Brazil

Discover now which are the 10 worst cars produced in Brazil.

10. Fiat Marea

Yes! The Marea will be on every list of bad cars. The model is unanimously considered a problematic car, and unfortunately, it lives up to its awful reputation.

The main quality discrepancy is the need to completely remove the engine just to replace a simple timing belt. But the problems don't stop there.

The Marea models and versions had some unacceptable design flaws. In other words, FIAT treated it like a real Frankenstein.

A classic example of this is the 2005 model, which had a 2.4-liter, 160-horsepower engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the Marea is known for explosions and fires under the hood.

Without a doubt, this is a model that deserves to be on our list.

9. Fiat Tipo

In ninth place we have another vehicle from the Italian manufacturer that became famous for its poor quality.

Just like the Marea, the Tipo had its image tarnished by fire incidents. A problem with the hydraulic steering system hoses caused a flammable liquid to be spilled into the engine.

The Result: Fire! Can you imagine driving and your car suddenly catching fire? That wouldn't be pleasant, would it?

The Tipo was launched in 1988 and, until 1991, offered a range of engine and power options. There was even a diesel model.

In 1993 the Tipo underwent a facelift and even gained a three-door version (long before the Veloster). In 1994 the model received safety improvements, until... go offline in 1995, being replaced by the Bravo.

To this day, the Tipo is considered one of the worst cars produced here. Therefore, you should avoid it at all costs.

8. Fiat Freemont

No. This list doesn't only include Fiat cars. But the Freemont is another example that needs to be mentioned, especially the older models.

Although it's a spacious car with plenty of room, making it a great option for families, it's yet another example of the worst cars in Brazil.

Fiat Freemont

Very similar to the Dodge Journey when it was launched, it had an automatic transmission option with only 4 gears. This hampered its performance and increased its already high fuel consumption.

If you really like the design and the spaciousness of the Fiat Freemont is appealing to you, we suggest you look for the newer versions that have undergone improvements in transmission, fuel consumption, and power.

Otherwise, the chances of you getting angry and becoming a partner of the gas stations are high.

7. Troller Pantanal

Besides being bad, the Troller Pantanal is unknown to many people due to its low sales figures. Only 77 units were sold, a real shame.

The model was produced between 2006 and 2008 and was recalled simply because its structure could suddenly fall apart while the vehicle was in motion.

Today, these models are sold at VERY cheap prices, but don't fall into temptation. If you come across a Troller Pantanal for sale, you should run away.

6. Hyundai Veloster

Here we have a sample that caused a lot of confusion and suffered heavy criticism from the specialized media at the time it was still being sold.

The Veloster was attractive and featured good interior and exterior finishing. However, the manufacturer called it a "sports car."

Hyundai advertised that the engine had 140 horsepower when in reality it only had 128. Many owners felt cheated and sued the automaker, which had to pay a fine for false advertising.

The engine's lack of power, coupled with the scandal, made the model one of the worst cars produced in Brazil. After all, nobody likes to be deceived.

5. Lada Laika

The Laika arrived in Brazil in the early 1990s and its strong point was its mechanical reliability. In addition, its rear-wheel drive made the model an interesting and fun option to drive.

However, although it was produced in Brazil, the model was developed with technology to run on pure gasoline...just as it was in Russia, its country of origin. Here, gasoline was diluted with ethanol, and that ruined the Laika's performance.

4. Peugeot Hoggar

The Peugeot Hoggar is another chronic example of a bad car manufactured domestically.

The small pickup truck was produced to compete with the Montana, Saveiro, and Strada, the latter two being the segment leaders.

With no prior experience in the small pickup truck segment, the Hoggar proved to be weak and fuel-inefficient when its bed was loaded.

Furthermore, many examples suffer from premature wear on the suspension. This increases owners' maintenance costs much sooner than is considered ideal. That's why it's a model with a permanent place on our list.

3. Citroen Xantia

Much of the apprehension Brazilians have about Citroen cars stems from past times, and the Xantia is partly to blame for that.

The Xantia was considered a car ahead of its time when it was produced. With a wide range of standard features, it was appealing at first. But if its owners needed skilled mechanics, they were literally lost.

With advanced technology for the time and sophisticated components, few knew how to work on its electrical and hydraulic systems. And that made any kind of repair incredibly expensive!

Furthermore, its engines were weak for the time when compared to established national competitors such as Volkswagen and Chevrolet, for example.

2. Simca Chambord

Simca was a French car manufacturer that produced cars in Brazil between the 1950s and 1960s.

The automaker wanted to bring vehicles with American design to Brazilians, and they succeeded! At least in terms of looks.

The Simca Chambord, which even inspired a song, was beautiful and spacious, but incredibly slow. The heavy model boasted a meager 80-horsepower V8 engine under the hood, insufficient for navigating city streets and roads.

Nowadays, even collectors shy away from the Simca Chambord, considering it one of the worst cars ever produced in Brazil.

1. Gurgel BR 800

And, of course, we also have Gurgel.

Launched in 1987, the Gurgel BR 800 had a commendable proposition: to be an inexpensive, popular, and 100% national model.

At the time, the goal was to keep the model priced at no more than $3,000. However, due to a series of tax issues, the model ended up being launched at an average price of $7,000.

Nicknamed Despite being quite ugly, the model achieved an incredible 25 km per liter, had no belts, and featured water cooling. However, it never took off in sales.

Its performance was poor and its price was very similar to competitors of the time, such as the Uno Mille. Therefore, the BR 800 is still considered by many to be one of the worst cars produced in Brazil.
