What do the acronyms GTI and TSI mean?

Well, before we get into the technical differences between the Golf GTI and TSI models, let's understand what each acronym means.
GTI
So, the acronym GTI currently stands for Gran Turismo International, after a subtle change made by Volkswagen.
This is because the acronym previously stood for Gran Turismo Injection, due to the use of electronic fuel injection. At the time of its launch, this was a new technology in Brazil.
However, with the popularization of technology, the acronym ceased to be a distinguishing factor in identifying these car models. Hence the change made by Volkswagen for the high-performance versions of the Golf line.
TSI
The acronym TS, which stands for Touring Sport, also had the "I" added due to the use of electronic fuel injection.
However, just like the GTI acronym, it no longer designates car versions, but only Volkswagen brand engines.
What are the details that differentiate the GTI and TSI models?
Let's analyze the characteristics of the two models and find out the difference between the Golf GTI and the TSI. Follow along!
Motorization
The Gol GTI comes with a 2.0 turbo engine and direct injection, delivering 220 hp of power and 35.7 kgfm of torque at 1,500 rpm.
With this, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 237 km/h.
The Golf TSI, in its latest flex-fuel version, is equipped with a 1.4 TSI engine producing 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm of torque. Furthermore, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 203 km/h.
Consumption
So, the Golf GTI has an average fuel consumption of 6.8 km/l in the city and 13.5 km/l on the highway.
In turn, the TSI engine achieves 7.5 km/l in the city and 9.4 km/l on the highway when running on ethanol. With gasoline, its performance is 11.4 km/l in the city and 13.8 km/l on the highway.
Equipment and accessories
Being a top-of-the-line model, the Golf GTI comes very well equipped. Thus, you get a vehicle with 6 airbags, dual-zone climate control, stability control, traction control, and hill start assist.
Furthermore, it includes front and rear parking sensors, an electrochromic rearview mirror, a reversing camera, auto hold, and an electric parking brake.
Also, if you wish, it has some additional items that can be added, such as: leather seats, sunroof, and electric adjustments on the driver's seat.

And it doesn't stop there, it also comes with electronic parking brakes with Auto Hold system and Park Assist parking assistant.
And how much do the Golf GTI and Golf TSI cost?

Okay, so in March 2019, Volkswagen announced it would be discontinuing production of the Golf. The reasons for discontinuing the Golf were a drop in sales and also the prioritization of sales of the T-Cross SUV.
Currently, you can find three versions of the 2019 models. Therefore, see what they are and what their selling prices are.
- Golf Comfortline 200 TSI 2019 – R$ 102 thousand
- Golf Highline 250 TSI 2019 – R$ 125 thousand
- Golf GTI 350 TSI 2019 – 199 thousand
Please note that the prices listed above refer to 2019 models. However, you can find excellent options for older models to buy.
Conclusion
Well, as we saw above, each model has its own specific characteristics that differentiate it. Therefore, if you're one of those drivers who likes a more powerful feel, the Golf GTI might be the right choice for you.
Ultimately, the model boasts excellent performance with its sporty styling, great dynamics, and low driving position. This makes it a highly sought-after hatchback model among car enthusiasts.
Its only drawbacks are the trunk, which has small dimensions, and the voice command, which isn't very precise.
On the other hand, the Golf TSI isn't as powerful as the GTI. Even so, it greatly appeals to drivers who like a lightweight car with satisfactory performance.
