Firstly, as we have already said, the car must have the same mechanical characteristics as those produced in series and sold to consumers.

Furthermore, the test cannot be performed in a closed circuit; it must be done on a normal public road.

So, one of the preferred places to do this test is on Highway 160, which is in the middle of the desert, near the city of Las Vegas in the United States.

Furthermore, for this test, the car must use standard tires and fuel.

Well, we begin our list with this Pagani model. The Huayra was designed by the company's founder himself, Horacio Pagani.

So, the model has a 730-horsepower engine that was developed by Mercedes-Benz's AMG division and reaches 370 km/h.

This model was produced in the mid-90s and was considered revolutionary at the time of its release.

Made with an aluminum engine and a carbon fiber chassis, it was a lightweight car that weighed 1,140 kg and reached a speed of 391 km/h.

Well, this model is one of the least known among speed enthusiasts.

It was launched in 2000 to compete with the McLaren F1.

And it succeeded! With a 760-horsepower engine, it reached a speed of 399 km/h.

Bugatti was already producing the most powerful and expensive car model of its generation, but it wanted the speed record.

This model, with 987 horsepower, managed to reach a top speed of 408.4 km/h.

Since its inception, 9ff has specialized in the Porsche 911 model, but later decided to produce its own supercars.

This model, after several production attempts, reached a speed of 414 km/h.

The first model from the Swedish brand to appear on this list, this model was launched in 2011.

It has a very powerful engine with 1,115 horsepower and reaches a speed of 420 km/h.

SSC North America is the manufacturer of this model, which is on the list of supercars.

So, with an engine boasting over 1,000 horsepower, it can reach a top speed of 430 km/h.

Here, we have another Bugatti model featured on the list.

This time, we have the Veyron Super Sport.

This model was manufactured in France by Bugatti Automobiles SAS and, with a 1,200 horsepower engine, reaches a speed of 431 km/h.

Appearing in 4th place on this list, we have this American supercar manufactured by Hennessey between 2010 and 2017, which had an engine with 1,451 horsepower.

It could reach a top speed of 435 km/h.

Koenigsegg places another model among the fastest supercars in the world.

This time, with the One:1, which managed to hold the speed record for 2 years.

Thus, with a well-balanced design between weight and power—weighing 1,260 kg and having a 1,360 horsepower engine—this car impressed the world by reaching a speed of 440 km/h.

Only 30 units of this model were produced, and it was created to compete with the Koenigsegg One:1 for the speed record.

And it succeeded! With a very well-designed project and 1,578 horsepower, this model reached an incredible speed of 490 km/h.

Finally, in the running for the world's fastest supercar, we have this model from SSC North America.

So, the SSC Tuatara has an engine with an incredible 1,750 horsepower and reached a speed of 508 km/h in tests!

Thus, this model managed to beat its competitors and reach 1st place on the podium of the fastest cars in the world.

An interesting fact: the highest speed ever achieved by a car is 1,227 km/h.

However, this absolute record was achieved in 1997 with a Thrust SSC model, equipped with two Rolls-Royce Spey 202 jet engines used in airplanes. Thus, it was exclusively developed to achieve this mark and, therefore, is not considered a record.

So, as we said, these vehicles can be purchased on the market, but the price of these supercars reaches astronomical figures, as they are special and produced in small quantities.
