17. Volkswagen Brasília
In 1973, the Volkswagen Brasília, one of Brazil's most iconic cars, was launched. The automaker had been working on the project since 1970 at the request of the brand's then-president in Brazil, Rudolph Leiding.
After its launch in 1973, the model underwent minor changes in 1977, 1978, and in 1979 and 1980 it reached the level of the best-selling vehicle in Brazil.
Like the Beetle, this model was equipped with a rear engine and a four-speed gearbox, and was launched to compete against the Chevette and to rival the Fiat 147.
