13 – Mitsubishi
THE Mitsubishi Group (also known as Mitsubishi Group of Companies or Mitsubishi Companies, and informally as Mitsubishi Keiretsu) is a Japanese conglomerate consisting of a series of independent companies that share the Mitsubishi brand.
The first Mitsubishi company was founded by the navigator Yataro Iwasaki (1834-1885) in 1870. In 1873, the name was changed to Mitsubishi Shokai. The name Mitsubishi has two parts: "mitsu" means "three" and "bishi" means "water chestnut," and consequently, "rhombus," which is reflected in the company logo. It is also translated as "three diamonds."
