The South Korean company Kia was founded in 1944 with the purpose of manufacturing bicycle parts. The factory was established in Seoul.
During the Korean War, which took place between 1950 and 1953, Kia moved its facilities to the port city of Busan in the south of the country, changing its name to Kia Industries. At this time, more specifically in 1952, it began manufacturing bicycles, called Samcholli. After the armistice began, Kia set up another factory in the town of Shiheung to meet the demand for bicycles.
