Dr. Ing. hc F. Porsche AGPorsche, usually abbreviated to Porsche AG, or simply Porsche, is one of the world's leading sports car brands, founded in Austria and now headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.
The German brand Porsche was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry Porsche. Ferdinand Porsche was already well-known before founding Porsche, having worked for other brands. He had also launched the first hybrid automobile in 1900.
In 1934, after being asked to create a car affordable to all Germans, Ferdinand Porsche created the Volkswagen Sedan. The Sedan served as the mechanical basis for the Type 64, created in 1939, and the Porsche 356, produced in 1948, which was the first Porsche to be manufactured. The Porsche 356 largely used parts from the Volkswagen Sedan, such as the rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. Later, the 356 would be entirely built from Porsche parts.
